Reagle, Rini homer in JCC sweep Saturday

The bats were hard at work this past Saturday as the Jamestown Community College baseball team swept visiting Corning Community College.

The Jayhawks (5-4, 1-3 WNYAC) were deadlocked with the Barons after two innings of action before winning Game 1 7-2.

In the bottom of the third, freshman centerfielder Ayden Reagle (Jamestown/Maple Grove Junior-Senior High School) hit a two-run home run to left field for a 2-0 lead.

In the fifth, sophomore catcher Lucas Porpiglia (Dunkirk/Dunkirk High School) set himself up with a double to start the inning and scored on the following play thanks to an error by the Barons, who tried to throw out Reagle. The Jayhawks added on one more run with Reagle coming home on a pair of errors Corning CC.

Jamestown CC put the game out of reach in the sixth inning, tacking on three more runs. After hitting a single, sophomore third baseman Roberto Aracena (Miami, Florida/Citi Christian Academy) scored on a ground ball from sophomore designated hitter Nick Rini (Powhatan, Virginia/Knock High School). Rini reached on an error from the Barons. After sophomore rightfielder Billy Harmon (Racine, Ohio/Southern Local High School) walked, Porpiglia added two more RBIs on a single to center field, driving in Rini and Harmon.

The Barons added two runs in the seventh.

Redshirt-freshman pitcher Bryce Jackson (Jamestown/Jamestown High School) went the distance on the mound, scattering five hits and tying a career-high 11 strikeouts.

Aracena, Porpiglia and Reagle all went 3 for 3 at the plate.

Jamestown CC then completed the doubleheader sweep with a 7-3 win in Game 2.

Looking to carry over their momentum from game one, Rini got a hold of one and hit a solo home run to deep center field during the botth of the fourth inning for a 1-0 lead.

The Barons answered back, scoring two runs in the fifth to take the 2-1 advantage.

After that, the floodgates opened for Jamestown CC, scoring five runs to take the 6-2 lead. Harmon drove in Porpiglia on a triple to left field. Reagle added another run when he drove in Harmon on a ground ball.

Freshman rightfielder Josh Lupo (Stafford, Virginia/Brooke Point High School) drove in two runs, driving in Reagle and freshman shortstop Ethan Abegg (Commerce City, Colorado/Prarie View High School). Redshirt-Freshman designated hitter Yordangel Gonzalez (Miami, Florida/Miami Jackson Senior High School) capped off the scoring, driving in Lupo on an RBI single.

Corning CC added another run in the sixth to bring the score 6-3 in favor of the Jayhawks.

Jamestown CC added one more insurance run in the sixth as sophomore second baseman German Nolasco (Spring Hill, Florida/Weeki Wachee High School) scored on an error to make it 7-3.

Sophomore pitcher Adonis Collado (Perth Amboy, New Jersey/Perth Amboy High School) went the distance on the mound, scattering four hits while getting a career-high nine strikeouts.

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Saturday when they travel to Monroe CC for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
