Rich leads Travel League golf

RUSSELL, Pa. — Jeff Rich shot the low round of 81 to lead the Wednesday Night Travel League at Cable Hollow Golf Course, besting Wayne Stoughton and Ed Tofil by 1 stroke.

Rich and Bill Aldrich tied for the low front nine with 40 while Tofil led the back nine with 39. In the B Flight, Mick Dunning Sr. was the winner after a tiebreaker with Jack Hood and Don Kujawa. In the C Flight, Pete Pinkoski won on a tiebreaker with Gary Richardson. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Angelo Leone.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight,John Waterman (Nos . 9, 15), Mike Wolfe (No. 11), Stoughton (No. 13), and Rich (No. 14); B Flight, Kujawa (Nos. 1, 10), Aldrich (No. 6), Tony Destro (No. 13), Dave Franklin (No. 14), and Dunning (No. 17); and C Flight-John Tofil (Nos. 3, 16), Pinkoski (Nos. 4, 9), Richardson (No. 8), and Pat Weaver (No. 18).

Closest to the pin were Joe Bifaro (No. 2), Dennis Gawronski Sr. (No. 5), Dunning (No. 11), and Stoughton (No. 17).

Top point winners were Stoughton and Dunning (20 each), Kujawa and Pinkoski (16 each), and Waterman, Gawronski and Bifaro (12 each). Season points leaders are: 1. Stoughton (62), 2. Pinkoski (44), 3. Ed Tofil (37), 4. Kujawa (27), 5. Waterman (23), 6. Gary Haase and Dunning (20 each) and 8. Franklin, Aldrich, and Bifaro (18 each).

This week the league plays Venango Valley Golf Course in Venango, Pa. The first group tees off at 10 a.m. At this time all foursomes are full, but to be put on the alternate/sub list, contact 785-2291.
