SOUTH GLENS FALLS — Rachel Glowniak has made a habit of making headlines during her years as a member of the Dunkirk High School bowling team.

Only months removed from the completion of her senior season on the lanes, the 17-year old is still on the top of her game.

Competing at the New York State Bowling Proprietors Association Scholarship Tournament at King Pins Alley on Saturday, Glowniak placed second in a field of about 30 participants. To get there, she competed at Lucky Lanes in Fredonia; and advanced to the regionals in Buffalo where she placed in the top three to move on to the tournament in the North Country.

Once at the state event, Glowniak turned in a tremendous effort, posting a 260-258-255-773, her career-high scratch series. In the second block, the daughter of Rich and Rebecca Glowniak hit a 256-215-226-697. The 1,470 scratch six-game total — 1,512 with handicap — earned her the No. 2 seed among the four finalists. Facing the No. 4 seed, Glowniak won 222-206 (with handicap) to advance, but she lost in the final, 245-233.

Glowniak plans to attend Sacred Heart (Connecticut) University in the fall where she will also continue her bowling career.

In addition to her success on the lanes, Glowniak was also was a member of Dunkirk’s softball, soccer and volleyball teams; is in the top 10 of the senior class; is a member of the National Society; and is a class officer.

“We are very proud of all of Rachel’s accomplishments,” said Rich Glowniak said. “She has worked very hard academically and athletically.”
