OLEAN — Seventh-grader Ryan Kelly shot a 46 to lead Fredonia to a 28-27 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 boys golf victory over Olean on Friday at Bartlett Country Club.

Kamdyn McClain was the medalist for the Huskies (3-5, 3-4) with a 44.

The Hillbillies improved to 4-0 overall and in the league.

In the girls match, Olean’s Marina Heister fired a 41 to earn medalist honors as the Huskies beat Fredonia 28-27.

Juli Spacciapolli shot a 49 for the Hillbillies, who have lost all three of their matches this season by identical 28-27 scores.

“She really has stepped up her game. … Bartlett is not an easy course. She’s only a freshman, so it’s not like she’s played there before,” Fredonia coach Alex Conti said of Spacciapolli.

“I was pleased with all of the girls. They are all brand new,” Conti added. “They really are starting to strike the ball well. We went from one practice right into matches. They are just starting to learn how to make contact with the ball.”

CASSADAGA — Maple Grove’s Evan Steffen was the medalist with a 4-over 39 as Maple Grove won a pair of Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 golf matches Friday at Cassadaga Country Club.

The Red Dragons (11-1, 6-1) beat Falconer 29-26 and Cassadaga Valley 39.5-15.5.

Evan Reynolds led the Golden Falcons (5-5, 3-3) with a 43 and Aiden Gierlinger led the Cougars (0-9, 0-7) with a 55.
