Davis has big hit as Fredonia knocks off Jamestown

Fredonia scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and never looked back en route to a 5-2 nonleague win over Jamestown.

Pinch-hitter Micah Davis led off the fifth with a walk and stole second before Simon Davis bunted him to third and Dom Gullo laid down another bunt to score Micah Davis. Gullo reached on an error and later scored on a wild pitch.

The Red Raiders had back-to-back hits in the top of the sixth to get a run back before the Hillbillies added on in the bottom half of the frame. Simon Davis came to bat with the bases loaded and hit a two-run double down the left-field line.

Gabe Schrader earned the win for Fredonia, pitching the final three innings and allowing one run on two hits while striking out five.

Riley Piazza threw four innings of three-hit ball and struck out five for Jamestown (1-11).

In the top of the third, Piazza walked and scored on Juan Matos’ RBI double.

Bryson Kolassa scored on Owen Rush’s RBI double in the fourth inning for the Hillbillies (7-8).

Matos also tripled for Jamestown in the first inning.

McKENNA STRIKES OUT 13

SALAMANCA — Lucas McKenna threw a five-hitter with 13 strikeouts and two walks to lead Salamanca to a 9-0 shutout of North Collins in Division 1 East play Friday.

The Warriors (8-4, 5-3) took control right off the bat with a five-run first inning. Hayden Hoag singled and Jaxson Ross doubled before Harley Hoag walked. McKenna then hit a two-run single before Harley Hoag scored on a passed ball. McKenna scored on an error and Zaron Tucker followed with a single before Andy Herrick eventually hit an RBI triple.

Up 6-0 in the fourth inning, Hayden Hoag tripled with one out before Ross’ RBI double. Harley Hoag followed with an RBI single.

Hayden Hoag scored his fourth run of the game in the sixth inning on an RBI single by McKenna.

Harley Hoag finished with three hits while Hayden Hoag, Ross, McKenna and Tucker all had two hits.

Asher Parnitzke had two singles while Matthew Warsaw, Tony Puckhaber (double) and Austin Kehr each had one for North Collins (4-4, 3-4).

HEIM SCORES WINNER IN 7TH

WESTFIELD — Josh Heim scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Westfield edged Chautauqua Lake 10-9 in Division 2 West play Friday.

Easton Seger earned the win, throwing 5 1/3 innings of six-hit ball with nine strikeouts and one walk.

Josh Hoffman hit a three-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning; Seger was 3 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI; Brad Babcock was 2 for 2 with a run scored and two RBIs; and Peyton Carlton was 2 for 4 with a run scored and two RBIs for the Wolverines (2-7, 2-6).

Jalen Parkhurst was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI; Kalen Miller had a hit and two runs scored; and Nate Olson had a hit, a run scored and an RBI for the Thunderbirds (6-5, 3-5).
