Fredonia falls in Olean

OLEAN — Fredonia fell to 4-5 overall and 1-4 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West play with an 8-5 road loss to Olean.

Adam Spencer settled in after the first inning to throw a complete-game five-hitter with seven strikeouts for the Huskies (3-2, 3-2).

The Hillbillies scored a pair of runs without picking up a hit in the first inning.

Fredonia committed four errors behind starting pitcher Gabe Schrader in the first inning. Lucas Brushingham had the big hit for the Huskies with a three-run double.

Schrader ended up throwing three innings, allowing three hits and no earned runs while striking out three.

Chase Krotts had a two-run single for Olean in the fourth inning.

The Hillbillies’ Dom Gullo made a pair of diving catches in center field, including one that turned into a double play.

Alex Rush had two hits and Gullo scored two runs for Fredonia.

“We have to keep our heads up and keep playing,” Fredonia head coach Vince Gullo said. “Good things will come eventually.”

Fredonia will take on Sweet Home tonight in Depew.
