Fredonia completes one-loss regular season

Fredonia completed a 13-1 regular season with a 5-2 victory over Allegany-Limestone in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West softball action Thursday.

The Hillbillies also completed an 11-1 league schedule with the win.

T’BIRDS CLINCH TITLE

MAYVILLE — Chautauqua Lake locked up the Division 2 West softball title with a 2-1 win over Frewsburg on Thursday.

Cayzlee Johnson threw 6 1/3 innings and struck out 10 while allowing two hits and walking three. Olivia Herrington struck out the final two batters for the save.

Johnson walked and took second on a sacrifice bunt by Tatem Zemcik in the third inning before scoring on a Jenna Waters RBI single. The Thunderbirds (11-1, 11-1) scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Bears (5-8, 4-8) scored their lone run in the top of the fifth inning.

Peyton Yost and Reagan Chitester had singles for Frewsburg. Chitester also struck out nine in a three-hitter in the circle.

WOLVERINES REBOUND

WESTFIELD — Haleigh Dellow went 3 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored as Westfield rebounded from its second loss of the season with an 11-1 Division 2 West win over Cassadaga Valley.

The Wolverines (11-2, 10-2) led 4-0 after a three-run second inning and 9-0 after a five-run fourth inning.

Tanleigh Bestine went 2 for 4, including a double, with an RBI and two runs scored while also striking out nine in a two-hitter in the circle for Westfield. Keara Kincaid was 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored; Cassidy Phillips was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a runs scored; and Eva Gnadzinski was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Jocelyn Faulkner doubled and Kaylee Pattyson tripled for the Cougars (0-12, 0-12).

TROJANS TOP JAMESTOWN

Southwestern scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back en route to an 11-6 Division 1 West victory over Jamestown.

With two outs and one run already in, the Trojans (5-8, 4-8) rattled off five straight hits. Kylee Dibble and Alli Durnell hit RBI singles before Sofia Genareo’s RBI ground-rule double to left field. Katie Lowe and Madison Cresanti followed with RBI doubles.

Southwestern added on in the fourth inning thanks to Lia Constantino’s RBI double.

Lowe earned the win in the circle, throwing the final five innings and striking out nine.

Durnell, Genareo and Lowe each had three of the Trojans’ 14 hits while Cresanti had two.

Aubrey Reynolds went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and Lindsey Spitz struck out four in the circle for the Red Raiders (0-13, 0-12).

WELTY THROWS NO-HITTER

PORTVILLE — Mallory Welty threw a five-inning no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and two walks as Portville beat Salamanca 13-0 in East Division play.

Olivia Emley had three singles, three RBIs and a run scored; Mia Hlasnick had two hits, including a double, two runs scored and two RBIs; and Felecia Capito had two hits, three RBIs and a run scored for the Panthers (14-1, 12-0).

The Warriors fell to 5-6 overall and in the league.
