Southwestern beats Gators in extra innings

ALLEGANY — Ally Durnell scored the winning run in the top of the eighth inning as Southwestern beat Allegany-Limestone 4-3 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West softball action Monday.

Kylee Dibble led off the eighth with a single and stole second before going to third on a passed ball. Durnell then hit a grounball to shortstop and Dibble was thrown out at the plate. Durnell advanced to second on the throw and went to third on a passed ball before scoring on Sofia Genareo’s groundout to second.

Genareo retired the final three Gators (3-12, 2-9) in order in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Trojans (4-6, 3-6) scored three runs in the first inning. Dibble singled and Durnell reached on an error before Genareo hit a two-run triple. Katie Lowe followed with an RBI groundout.

Allegany-Limestone scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game.

Lowe allowed two hits and struck out 11 in six innings for Southwestern before Genareo got the final six outs, including one strikeout.

Dibble went 3 for 4, Genareo had two hits, including a triple, Durnell singled and Ella White singled for the Trojans.

FALCONER WINS BIG

DUNKIRK — Macy Youngberg went 2 for 2 with a three-run triple to lead Falconer to a 17-3 five-inning Division 1 West win over Dunkirk on Saturday.

Ashley Pierce went 3 for 4; Nicole Youngberg went 2 for 3 with an RBI; Emily Melquist doubled; Hannah Cross doubled; and Tess Spangenburg and Kayla Lynn both drew three walks for the Golden Falcons (9-2, 9-2).

Kayla Lynn pitched a complete game for Falconer.

Courtney Zatorski doubled and walked twice; Olivia Corbett singled and walked twice; and Summer Clark doubled for the Marauders.

In an 8-2 victory over Allegany-Limestone, Melquist went 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI; Nicole Youngberg went 2 for 4 with a triple; and Macy Youngberg and Ashton Beckerink both went 2 for 4 with RBIs. Cross added a double and Ashton Beckerink threw a complete game.

Kinsey McAfee, Kylee Kiener and Ellie Strade singled for the Gators.
