JAMESTOWN — The Jamestown Tarp Skunks came within an out of sweep Wednesday, but Niagara scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to post a 4-3 win and a split of the twin bill at Diethrick Park.

Jamestown, which allowed just one hit in a 3-1 victory in the opener, broke a scoreless tie in the nightcap by scoring three times in the bottom of the sixth inning, courtesy of a RBI groundout by Kevin Koziol, a wild pitch and an RBI single by Luke Turner.

In the top of the seventh, Ryan Rafalski, who came on in relief to start the sixth, recorded two outs sandwiched around a walk, but a single and an error scored the first run, forcing manager Jordan Basile to call Christian Lewis out of the bullpen. But Lewis gave up two hits and a walk, and another error accounted for the Power’s final three runs.

The Tarp Skunks were retired in order in the bottom of the seventh.

Brett Kochanski was the winning pitcher, scattering five hits and allowing three earned runs, while striking out seven and walking one in six innings. Scott Ogrin earned the save.

Rafalski took the loss. Jamestown starter Nichols allowed four hits, struck out two and walked two in five innings on the hill.

Will Carlone had two hits for Niagara. Cory Blackburn smacked a double for the Tarp Skunks.

In the first game, winning pitcher Justin Guiliano, Jack Laird and Matt Henson combined on a one-hitter.

Jamestown tallied runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings. Anthony Badala and Blackburn each had two hits. Dimaggio Cazares, Justin Bailey and Badala each drove in a run.

The Power’s lone hit was by Aaron Greenfield, a triple with one out in the sixth inning, off Laird. He later scored on an error.

Josh Quartley took the loss, scattering six hits over five innings.

The Tarp Skunks’ record now stands at 22-10, six games in front in the West Division. They return to action tonight when they travel to Batavia.

Jamestown returns home when it takes on Newark at 7 p.m.

Starting at $3.50/week.
