On July 13-14, the Wednesday Travel League made its seventh annual trip to Boardman, Ohio.

On Tuesday, the league held a special event, “The Cousin Eddie Invitational” at Reserve Run in Poland, Ohio. Dan Kaszuba won the day with 99 points, leading team Bobzo to a first-place finish.

Al Etzel shot the low round of 75, followed by Gary Haase with 82 and Pete Gawron with 83.

Closest to the pin were Kaszuba (Nos. 2, 8), Dave Wallace (No. 4), Gawron (No. 11) and Lenny Leszkowicz (No. 15).

Team totals were: first place, Team Bobzo (126 points); second place, Team Lucky (72); third place, Team Hoody (36); fourth place, Team Big Lou; fifth place, Team TD (9).

On Wednesday, the league held its regular event at Tam O’Shanter in Hermitage, Pennsylvania. It was the league’s first ever visit to the course, making it the 71st different course the league has played since 2001.

Al Etzel was the overall winner, posting the low round of 81. Ken Kaus was second with 84 while Tom Destro and Dave Wallace tied for third with 89. Kaus led the front nine with 39 and Etzel led the back nine with 38. Bob Thompson was the B Flight winner for the 33rd time in his career, moving him past Pat Weaver into second place all-time. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Dan Kaszuba.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Gary Haase (No. 1), Kaus (No. 7) and Etzel (No. 15); B Flight — Mike Willoughby (Nos. 1, 11, 13), Lenny Leszkowicz (No. 2), Thompson (Nos. 7, 15) and John Waterman (No. 18). Closest to the pin were Lou Polichetti (No. 8) and Waterman (Nos. 15, 18).

The league played Scenic Heights in Wattsburg, Pennsylvania on July 7. A three-way tie for low score with 80 was broken on the fourth handicap hole with a par by Wayne Stoughon, making him the overall winner. Also shooting 80 were Robert Calph and Al Etzel. Tony Destro and Jake Harp shot 81 and Ryan Tofil and Tom Destro shot 82. Calph, Etzel and John Waterman tied for the low front nine with 39, and Stoughton led the back nine with 39. Waterman was the B Flight winner for a record 60th time in his career. In the C Flight, Jack Hood won on a tiebreaker with John Tofil. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award, in his league debut, was John Bini.

Closest to the pin: Al Etzel was closest to the pin on all four par-3 holes, becoming just the second golfer in league history to record four in a single event. He tied the record set by John Bongiovanni Jr. in 2013. Etzel was just 18 inches from the cup on No.18.

Top point winners were Etzel (112 — league season high) and Tony Destro, Tom Destro and Wallace(38 apiece). With his career high 112 points, Etzel moved past Butch Mackowiak into fifth place on the all-time points list.
