Jamestown CC hires full-time athletic trainer

Dr. David Boyd

JAMESTOWN — Jamestown Community College and George Sisson, director of Athletics and Recreation, recently announced the hiring of Dr. David Boyd to serve as the institution’s head athletic trainer.

“I’m happy that the administration gave their consent on hiring a full-time athletic trainer as our athletic program continues to grow,” Sisson said. “We are fortunate to attract someone like Dr. Boyd with their education and work history to take on this position.”

“JCC was a good fit for me as it is close to where I grew up in Erie and it has a high level of competition,” Boyd said. “I have more freedom to work on the athlete compared to the high school level. I am excited to return to the area and work at a great institution.”

Boyd comes to Jamestown CC from Eatonville School District located in Eatonville, Washington where he served as the school’s athletic trainer, assistant boys varsity coach and teacher. Prior to Eatonville, Boyd spent two years at ATI Physical Therapy in Yelm, Washington.

While working at Eatonville School District and ATI Physical Therapy, Boyd implemented the Core-AT Electronic Medical Record System along with creating and implementing athletic training policy and procedure manuals.

Boyd has also had some unique experiences in the athletic training field including working with the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps in Fort Mills, South Carolina in 2018 and was the performance medicine resident therapist for Crique Du Soleil in Las Vegas the year prior.

Boyd was first introduced to the athletic training world at Mercyhurst University, working as a graduate assistant until the spring of 2012 where he graduated with a Master of Science degree in organizational leadership.

After Mercyhurst University, Boyd spent one year at Tennessee Tech University where he served as the primary athletic trainer for the men’s basketball team.

Boyd then moved onto Brevard College in North Carolina where he was an assistant athletic trainer, working with the men’s and women’s soccer teams, men’s basketball, and with the men’s and women’s tennis teams until the spring of 2015.

With his time in the field, Boyd returned to the classroom in 2015 to get his Doctorate of Athletic Training at Indiana State University. While obtaining his doctorate, Boyd was the head athletic trainer at Terre Haute South Vigo High School in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Prior to his work experience and other education, Boyd graduated in the spring of 2010 from West Virginia with a Bachelor of Science in physical education-athletic training.
