Chautauqua GC’s Stauffer takes first at WNYPGA Senior Championship

MACEDON — The 2021 WNYPGA Senior Championship was held at Blue Heron Golf Club last week to crown the best senior professional in the section.

Once again proving his dominance on the senior professional circuit was Kirk Stauffer of Chautauqua Golf Club. Stauffer claimed the championship after posting a two-day total of even-par 142. This is Stauffer’s seventh senior championship title in the last 11 years and his third in a row.

Finishing runner-up right behind Kirk Stauffer was Jon Hoecker of Brook-Lea CC.

The 36-hole championship was also the qualifier for the 33rd Senior PGA Professional Championship, which will be held Oct. 21-24 at PGA Golf Club on the Wanamaker and Ryder courses in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Representing the WNYPGA Section later this fall will be Stauffer, Hoecker and third-place finisher Tim Fries of Glen Oak Golf Club.

Pat Damore of Lakewood Golf Center tied for fifth place with a two-day 74-78-152.

Winning the Super Senior Championship, age 60 and over, was Bobby Hogan of River Oaks Golf Club with a two-day total of 155.

Capturing the Classic Senior Championship, age 70 and over, was Charlie Cross of Canandaigua, who fired an 18-hole score of 77.

Another notable in the Classic Division was Ray Ziats of Vienna, who became the oldest professional to compete in the history of the WNYPGA Senior Championship. Ray is 83 and shot his age over 18 holes.
