Fredonia was victorious in the final event — the 400-yard freestyle relay — to hold off Southwestern/Jamestown, 95-91 in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association swimming & diving meet Thursday evening.
That was just one of many headline-performances by the Hillbillies.
The most impressive effort was by diver Elizabeth Pucci-Schaefer, who broke a 43-year-old school record with 314.77 points. The previous mark of 299 point was posted by Sarah Schuster in 1978. Meanwhile, Tori Spacciapolli, who was joined in the 400 relay by Molly Greenough, Greta Frerichs and Abby Roth, also won the 200 freestyle (2:03.81) and the 100 breastroke (1:09.62). She was also recognized on Senior Night, the lone 12th-grader on the team.
Claiming individual wins for Southwestern/Jamestown were Teagan Shedd in the 200 individual medley (2:31.72), Faith Hamilton in the 50 freestyle (29:05), Alexis Grijalva in the 100 freestyle (1:02.41) and Clarissa Hren in the 500 freestyle (5:51.60).
