Golden Cougars suffer prequarterfinal loss

FALCONER — Newfane goalkeeper Alexandria Szratter was credited with 19 saves as the 11th-seeded Panthers beat No. 6 Falconer/Cassadaga Valley 3-1 in Section VI Class B2 prequarterfinal play Wednesday at Bill Race Field.

Anna Chunco opened the scoring for Newfane from Megan Beiter in the 15th minute.

Kayla Lynn answered for the Golden Cougars from Tess Spangenburg, but the hosts could not beat Szratter for the remainder of the game.

Chunco scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 51st minute from Angelina DiTullio. In the 79th minute, Chunco completed her hat trick from Lily Koziol.

Grace Lundmark made nine saves for Falconer/Cassadaga Valley.

The Panthers will travel to No. 3 Royalton-Hartland for a 6 p.m. quarterfinal Friday.

MARAUDERS NET SEVEN

BUFFALO — No. 12 Dunkirk picked the right time to have its highest scoring output of the season as the Marauders beat No. 5 International Prep 7-0 in Class B1 prequarterfinal action at Riverside Field.

Siera Jacques completed a hat trick by halftime for Dunkirk. She opened the scoring in the sixth minute, added her second goal in the 35th minute and tacked on her third a minute later from Aneglina Piede. Tayler Skelly also had a pair of first-half goals for the Marauders, one assisted by Jacques.

After halftime, Piede scored from Brianna Casey and Tachiana Garcia tallied from Nina Gugino.

Summer Clark was credited with the shutout in net for the Marauders, who will travel to No. 4 Springville for a 3:30 p.m. quarterfinal Friday.

TROJANS COAST

WEST ELLICOTT — No. 7 Southwestern led 6-0 by halftime en route to a 7-0 shutout of No. 10 JFK in Class B2 prequarterfinal action.

Brynne Conley assisted on Joslyn Brown’s goal in the third minute to open the scoring before Conley scored four first-half goals of her own.

Mia Turnbull assisted on Conley’s goal in the fourth minute, Lexi Lundmark picked up an assist in the 11th minute, Emily Kimball earned an assist in the 28th minute and Emma Malmstrom-Jounnet assisted in the 37th minute. Malmstrom-Jounnet added a goal from Ellie Lawton in the 36th minute.

After halftime, Lucy Brown scored from Sophia Segrue in the 74th minute.

Reece Beaver and Ella White were the Southwestern goalkeepers, but did not need to make a save in the shutout.

The Trojans will travel to No. 2 Allegany-Limestone for a 6 p.m. quarterfinal Friday.

T’WOLVES TOP WARRIORS

CATTARAUGUS — No. 8 Cattaraugus-Little Valley jumped out to a 3-0 first-half lead and beat No. 9 Salamanca 4-1 in Class C prequarterfinal action.

Alex Minnekine scored from Olivia Seiflein in the 23rd minute, Madison Spink tallied in the 28th minute and Evelyn Janora scored from Grace Zalwsky in the 36th minute for the Timberwolves.

After halftime, the Warriors’ Alina Cook made it 3-1 from Shea Monahan, but Spink’s second goal of the game, this time from Janora, capped the scoring.

Makenzie Oakes made 17 saves for Salamanca.

Onalee Osgood was credited with two saves for Cattaraugus-Little Valley, which will travel to No. 1 Holland/West Valley for a 3:30 p.m. quarterfinal Friday.

PINE VALLEY/GOWANDA OUSTED

EDEN — No. 8 Eden beat No. 9 Pine Valley/Gowanda 2-0 in Class B2 prequarterfinal play.

Jessica Zittel scored from Alexis Ecker in the ninth minute before Ecker scored from Zittel in the 17th minute for the Raiders.

Sydney Dahl made 13 saves and Danielle West made three saves in net for the Panthers while Haley Pompeo made three saves for Eden.

The Raiders advance to take on No. 1 Fredonia on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
