Spacciapolli earns state medal
Fredonia senior takes 14th in 100-yard breaststroke
ITHACA — Tori Spacciapolli wrapped up a shiny swimming career for Fredonia High School on Saturday.
Swimming in the B Final of the 100-yard breaststroke, the Hillbillies senior finished in 14th place overall with a time of 1:07.78 to earn a medal at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association swimming and diving championships at Ithaca College.
Spacciapolli’s time was less than .7 seconds slower than her personal-best time of 1:07.09, which she swam in Friday’s preliminaries.
Her 14th-place finish came on the heels of freshman teammate Elizabeth-Pucci-Schaefer’s 11th-place finish in 1-meter diving Friday.
Olean/Portville/Franklinville’s Alexis Trietley won the 100-yard freestyle with an All-American Consideration time of 50.54 seconds. Her teammate Megan Jackson was 21st in 53.76 seconds and Sweet Home’s Amalie Larsen was 22nd.
Trietley was also second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.13 seconds. Jackson was 15th and Frontier’s Zoe Zawodzinski finished in a dead heat for 21st.
Orchard Park took fifth and East Aurora was 16th in the 200-yard medley relay final.
Frontier’s Madeline Domster was 12th, Orchard Park’s Mia Bogulski was 15th, Larsen was 17th, Lancaster’s Madison McKinney was 22nd and Zawodzinski was 25th in the 200-yard freestyle.
Orchard Park’s Natalie Kassirer was 11th, Hamburg’s Jess Humby was 13th, Orchard Park’s Emily Blake was 23rd and East Aurora’s Jessica Drozdowski was 27th in the 200-yard individual medley.
West Seneca East’s Natalie Weissman finished 34th, Allegany-Limestone/Ellicottville’s Michaella Rhodes finished 38th and Olean/Portville/Franklinville’s Makenna O’Connell was 41st in the diving preliminaries Friday.
Bogulski was ninth, Drozdowski was 10th and Orchard Park’s Isabella Mikulec was 19th in the 100-yard butterfly.
Domster finished in a dead heat for 13th in the 500-yard freestyle and McKinney was 15th.
Frontier took seventh, East Aurora was 26th and Olean/Portville/Franklinville was 28th in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Mikulec took 11th-place and Lewiston-Porter’s Maya Marcyan was 13th in the 100-yard backstroke.
Humby was third and Orchard Park’s Natalie Kassirer finished two spots ahead of Spacciapolli in 12th place and Niagara Wheatfield’s Ava Pauly was 26th in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Orchard Park wrapped up the meet with an eight-place finish and Frontier was 15th in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
