Hinsdale-led Panama knocks off Pine Valley

PANAMA — Bryce Hinsdale hit three 3-pointers during the fourth quarter as Panama rallied past Pine Valley for a 64-59 nonleague boys basketball victory.

Carter Brink led Panama with 21 points to go along with four assists and three steals while Hinsdale had 19 points, five rebounds and three steals.

“Getting Hinsdale to knock down a few 3s late in the fourth quarter was huge,” said Panama head coach Ed Nelson. “Alex Barmore knocked down some clutch free throws. It was a total team effort. Everybody hit some clutch shots and played some good defense.”

Kordell Oakes scored 13 of his game-high 31 points in the second quarter as Pine Valley took a 31-28 halftime lead.

“We had trouble stopping him,” Nelson said of Oakes. “He can do a little bit of everything.”

Panama responded with a 15-8 third quarter to take a three-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Barmore finished with a team-high seven rebounds and Lucas Lisciandro added four assists in the win.

Oakes also grabbed 10 rebounds while Wayne Libby had 13 points and five rebounds in defeat.
