Marauders compete in Maryvale Kickoff Tournament

MARYVALE — The Dunkirk Marauders boys and girls bowling teams started the season on Monday by competing in the Maryvale Kickoff Tournament for the first time.

The boys took fourth place out of 21 teams while the girls took fifth out of 18 teams. The overall boys winner was Maryvale and for the girls Lancaster won.

The boys scored 921-853-965-2,739, just four pins better than fifth-place St. Joe’s with 2,735 pins. Robert Kozlowski led with 224-160-204-588, good enough to land 13th overall at the tournament. Behind Kozlowski was Jaxson Pencek with 214-170-188-572, Clayton Bajda with 153-216-201-570, Matthew Woloszyn with 198-145-203-546 and Bryan Thurston rolled games of 162 and 169. Maryvale was the only small division school to defeat Dunkirk.

After graduating a strong group of seniors, Dunkirk head coach Donna Kubera was anxious to see how this group would fare. Without the group the girls fared quite well with a linescore of 704-753-799-2,256, which was the highest among the competing small schools.

“With the loss of Rachel Glowniak, Makayla Pasierb, and Olivia Corbett it was interesting to see how the team would fare without those ladies,” stated Kubera. “They did well for the first time out. We have a lot to work on, but it was great to see how our girls will stack up this year. We started two brand new girls to the team, one being a 7th grader.”

Tayler Skelly led the way for the Marauders rolling 156-170-157-483. Following Skelly was Hannah Rosing with 133-155-181-469, Summer Clark with 136-154-168-458, Paige Mullen with 153-155-145-453 then seventh grader Victoria Cerrie rolled a 148 game.

Dunkirk is back in action today at Lucky Lanes where they’ll play Southwestern.
