12U Steelers capture title in Michigan

PLYMOUTH, Mich. — The Northern Chautauqua County Youth Hockey Association’s Fredonia Steelers 12U PeeWee team was recently crowned tournament champions of the Hockeytown Presidential Power-Play, which was held Feb. 19-21 at USA Hockey Arena.

The Steelers went undefeated in pool play by defeating Elyria (Ohio) 6-2, Honeybaked (Michigan) 9-4 and Lakeland Hills (Michigan) 6-0.

In the championship game, the Steelers downed Honeybaked 4-2. Brayden Fabiano broke a 2-2 tie early in the third period with what proved to be the game-winning goal. Nico Fadale stood strong in net behind a strong Steelers defense led by Angelica Mullen, Mason Miller, Cameron DeLaO, Marcus Parmentier and Dominick Austin. The offense featured 13 different goal scorers with Emmett Williams, Max Hazelton and Connor Brentley leading the charge.

While at the tournament, the team had the chance to watch the 18U USA Hockey national development team practice prior to the championship game, tour the facilities and visit the USA Hockey exhibits dedicated to the 1980 Olympic team.

The 12U Steelers will head into the Western New York Amateur Hockey League playoffs in mid-March as the second-ranked team in the MOHL Division, currently holding an 18-1-1 record. Playoff games are scheduled for March 13 and March 20 in Cheektowaga.
