Hinsdale leads Wolfpack past Pine Valley 22-7

GOWANDA — Bryce Hinsdale had himself a day.
The Clymer/Sherman/Panama freshman collected five hits, including two doubles and a triple, to lead the Wolfpack to a 22-7 victory over Pine Valley in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 baseball game Saturday.
Gabe Roth, Tate Catanese, Dylan Michael and Micah Willink also had multiple hits for the winners (4-0, 3-0) in support of winning pitcher Kurtis Olson. The right-hander allowed two hits and three runs over five innings and struck out eight. Hinsdale and Trent Burchanowski closed out the game in relief.
Clymer/Sherman/Panama didn’t commit an error. Willink handled 10 chances flawlessly.
Bryce Sercu took the loss for the Panthers.
NEAR NO-HITTER
BEMUS POINT — Three Maple Grove pitchers nearly combined on a no-hitter in a 10-0 Division 2 shutout of Cassadaga Valley.
Kolden McCall, Jake Vaillancourt and Jackson Gowan combined for nine strikeouts in the five innings. A two-out single in the fifth inning broke up the no-hit bid.
Vaillancourt had three hits; Gowan was 2 for 3 with a double Colin McPherson was 2 for 2 with a double; and Tucker Fenton doubled for the Red Dragons (2-0, 2-0).
Maple Grove scored four runs in the first inning, two in the second, two in the fourth and two in the fifth. The game-ending run came home when Gowan was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the fifth inning.
SMUDA EARNS KEY HIT
DUNKIRK — John Smuda hit a three-run bases-clearing double in the fifth inning as Gowanda beat Dunkirk 7-5 in Division 1 action.
Blake Herman threw three-plus innings of relief to earn the victory for the Panthers (6-1, 4-0).
The Marauders fell to 1-2 in the league.
BLACK KNIGHTS PREVAIL
ELLICOTTVILLE — Behind three hits and four RBIs by Aiden Piccolo, Silver Creek/Forestville upended Ellicottville 15-7 in a Division 3 baseball game Saturday.
Gavin Borrello chipped in with three hits, including a double, and two RBIs for the winners, who used a seven-run third inning to jump in front 8-0, a lead they never surrendered. Andrew Piccolo chipped in two hits and scored three runs as the Black Knights improved to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the division.
Aiden Piccolo struck out eight on the mound in the win.
The Eagles (3-4, 2-2) were led by Caedon Wyatt with three hits, including a double; Braylon Wyatt with two hits, including a double, and five RBIs; and Logan Grinols with a pair of singles.
On Friday, Franklinville beat the Black Knights 6-4.
Matt Spittler, Gannon Callahan and Jacob Dahlke each had two hits for the Panthers.
Jonah Fox threw five innings, struck out nine and walked three on the mound for Silver Creek/Forestville.
Blake Frank threw six innings, struck out seven and walked two for Franklinville.
Cade Neubauer had a pair of singles for the Black Knights and Borrello doubled.
TROJANS BREEZE
SPRINGVILLE — Southwestern scored all the runs it needed in the first two innings on its way to an 8-1 victory over Springville in a nonleague game.
Aidan Kennedy led the way for the Trojans (3-2) with four hits and three RBIs, and Lucas Gilbert and Judd Harris chipped in two hits apiece.
Jameson Walsh was the winning pitcher, working into the fifth inning and striking out seven.
Jackson Crone had two hits to lead Springville (1-5).
