A piece of the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West softball title was on the line in Fredonia on Wednesday.
Having lost its only league game in Olean earlier this season, Fredonia (11-1, 10-1) needed a big victory for its share of the league title.
Erin Schrantz rose to the occasion, hitting a two-run home run that gave Fredonia a 3-1 lead and eventual 3-2 victory over Olean (9-6, 8-1).
"It's good to play in games like this with the pressure," stated Fredonia head coach Jesse Beers. "Some of the kids haven't been in games like this and they're processing how to deal with it. Being involved in these games will help the kids grow."
Hits were hard to come by in the contest, but Fredonia made the most of it with four extra base hits. Lila Cameron hit a triple, but Olean struggle on the cut off which allowed her to come home to score. Jordan Lucas and Gabby Matos both hit doubles and Schrantz broke the 1-1 tie with her hit past Olean's diving right fielder.

Jordan Lucas once again played strong for the Hillbillies in the circle, striking out 11, giving up just three hits and walking one batter in the win.
To clinch its spot atop the league with Olean, Fredonia will have to play rival Dunkirk on the road this Friday.
