Silver Creek knocks off Frewsburg in Class C prequarterfinals

FREWSBURG — Kaylee Hutchison tossed a two-hitter and struck out 12 to lead Silver Creek to a 7-2 victory over Frewsburg in a Section VI Class C prequarterfinal softball game Wednesday at the Robert H. Jackson Elementary School Athletic Complex.

Mikayla Kelly paced the Black Knights’ offense, collecting three hits, including a double, and driving in three runs. Tessa Braidich added two hits — one a double — and an RBI.

Reagan Chitester, who was the losing pitcher, and Peyton Yost accounted for the hits for the Bears (9-7).

Silver Creek (10-4) travels to Falconer for a quarterfinal game today.

MAYVILLE — No. 6 Chautauqua Lake held off No. 12 Maple Grove 7-6 to advance past the Class C prequarterfinals.

Both teams scored runs from singles. Jenna Waters and Lucy Gates both hit two for the Thunderbirds while Sam Snow connected on two singles for Maple Grove.

Olivia Herrington had 12 strikeouts, three walks and gave up five hits in the winning effort. Lydia Darby threw a complete game for the Red Dragons and gave up seven hits.

Chautauqua Lake travels to No. 3 Gowanda today for the quarterfinals.

MARAUDERS DOMINATE

It was a perfect day for the Dunkirk Marauders softball team.

The 5-seed Marauders hosted 12-seed Lackawanna and posted a 22-0 combined no-hit victory in the Class B1 prequarterfinals in Dunkirk.

Everyone on the Dunkirk offense contributed with Angelina Piede hitting a lead-off home run, a single, and a double and collecting four RBIs.

Jamaladie Pacheco was 3-for-4 with a home run; Courtney Zatorski went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs; Emily Pacheco was 3-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs; Leah Morales was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs; Alyssa Salerno hit two doubles and Tayler Skelly tripled.

Dunkirk was equally as dominant from the circle, not allowing a single Lackawanna baserunner. Jamaladie pitched the first two innings and struck out four, Piede threw the next 2 2/3 with five strikeouts and Zatorski pitched the final out.

Dunkirk’s victory sets up a game today at No. 4 Lake Shore.

STEWARD NO-HITTER ADVANCES CARDINALS

RANDOLPH — Kendall Steward was near perfect for the Cardinals in the Class C prequarterfinals.

No. 12 Tapestry’s leadoff hitter reached base on an error by Randolph, but from there Steward and her teammates were perfect on the way to a 13-0 win.

Steward struck out 13 batters in the circle and with her bat she hit a home run. Sadie Steward added three hits with a triple; Kyra Pence hit a triple and a single; and Allie Conley, Jaclynn Flood, Harper Smith and Juliana Syracuse all had two hits.

The 4-seeded Cardinals are back in action today at home against No. 5 Barker.

BULLDOGS SCORE 8 IN SIXTH

BROCTON — The 8-seeded Brocton Bulldogs exploded for eight runs in the sixth inning to power past 9-seed Forestville 17-13 in the Class D prequarterfinals.

The Bulldogs managed 22 hits, with Chyanne Whitaker going 2-for-5 with a home run, a double and three RBIs; Angeline Rexford went 4-for-5 with a double and three RBIs; Madison Sears hit a double and two RBIs and Savanna Krystofiak went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Forestville jumped to its lead thanks to Megan Gruber going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a double and Jade Work was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Brocton’s victory puts it on the road at No. 1 Westfield today.

TROJANS FALL IN EXTRAS

AKRON — Southwestern’s season came to an end in extra innings of the Class B2 prequarterfinals.

The 10-seeded Trojans sported a 9-8 lead headed into the bottom of the 12th, but back-to-back hits sent 7-seed Akron past Southwestern 10-9.

Akron’s victory was led by Ella Hill’s double that scored the runner starting on second, then Hill was scored by a game-winning single from Sloan Jonathan.

Southwestern’s effort was led by Teagan Shedd with two triples; Allie Durnell was 3-for-5, Madi Crisanti was 3-for-6 with a triple, Brynne Conley was 2-for-5 with a triple and Jaidyn Newhouse went 3-for-6. Conley pitched all 12 innings, struck out five and walked three.
