Jimerson sparks Haudenosaunee to 9-6 victory over China in lax
TOWSON, Md. — Jalyn Jimerson missed the Haudenosaunee Nationals first game of the 2022 World Lacrosse Women’s World Championship with a lower body injury.
The Syracuse University star’s offense was surely missed as Japan dealt Haudenosaunee a 13-8 loss to open the tournament in Pool E action. Jimerson returned to the field in Friday’s contest against China and her presence was the boost Haudenosaunee needed to claim a 9-6 victory in Pool E play.
Gowanda High School graduate Miya Scanlan netted the first goal for Haudenosaunee on a free position shot and Taylor Frink netted a goal assisted by Jimerson to keep things tied at 2-2 after the first quarter.
Haudenosaunee dominated the second quarter, outscoring China 5-1 for a 7-3 lead at halftime. Gowanda High School lacrosse coach Lottie Gill and the defense silenced the Chinese offense, while Haudenosaunee rained in goals.
China attempted to mount a comeback in the second half, but the deficit was too much to overcome. Jimerson led Haudenosaunee with two goals and two assists, Wynter Jock scored twice and Frink had a goal and an assist.
China was led by Shannon Brazier with a goal and two assists and both Charlotte Sawicki and Sandra Edwards scored twice in the effort.
Japan dominated the other Pool E game, defeating Argentina 25-3.
Haudenosaunee is off today and will be back in action on Sunday against Switzerland at 7 p.m. on ESPN+. China and Japan square off this morning at 9 and Swizterland plays Argentina at 4 p.m.
