Golden Cougars get back on track with 34-0 victory over Olean

Golden Cougars’ Matt Welsh races in for one of his two touchdowns in Saturday’s 34-0 victory over Olean.

FALCONER — The Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove Golden Cougars football team got back on the right track with a huge 34-0 victory over the Olean Huskies (2-2, 2-2 Class B2) in Class B2 action at Bill Race Field on Saturday night.

The Golden Cougars (3-1, 3-1 Class B2) dominated the run game, amassing 236 yards on the ground while punching in four touchdowns with their legs.

Dalton Caldwell opened the scoring with a 2-yard rushing touchdown to go up 7-0 in the first quarter after a Brailyn Paladino kick. Caldwell ran in a second score from 1-yard out that helped build the Golden Cougars lead to 21-0 before halftime.

While Caldwell benefited with two touchdowns, gaining 38 total yards on 13 attempts.

Gaining the most yards was Matt Welsh with 93 on just eight attempts. Welsh scored on the ground in the second quarter on a 4-yard run, then later hit paydirt in the third on a 25-yard reception from Lucas Sopak which was the only pass made by the Golden Cougars in the game.

The final score came from Charlie Reichenbach on a 28-yard rush. Reichenbach finished the game with 87 total yards on 10 attempts.

Defensively, the Golden Cougars made it nearly impossible for Olean to do anything as the Huskies only gained 58 total yards.

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove had interceptions from Austin Chase and Mathis Baehr.

Getting after the quarterback was Devyn Morrison as he made two sacks and collected five tackles with four being for loss and the leading tackler was Brodie Little with 7.5 tackles.
