Donato hat trick sends T’Birds to Class C semis

MAYVILLE — Taylor Donato scored a hat trick to send No. 4 Chautauqua Lake past No. 5 Holland/West Valley 3-1 in the Section VI Class C girls soccer quarterfinals on Friday.

Donato opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with an assist from Jada Cole. The Donato-Cole connection scored the eventual game-winner in the 38th minute then added a third tally in the 52nd minute. Lucille Gates made six saves in net for the win.

Chautauqua Lake (10-2-1) will now challenge No. 1 Wilson (12-4) on Tuesday in Dunkirk.

BEARS ROLL CARDS

FREWSBURG — The No. 3 Frewsburg Bears rolled past No. 6 Randolph in the Class C quarterfinals 8-0 .

Ava Jimerson led the way for the Bears (16-0-0) with three goals and two assists, Alex Hultberg potted two goals and three assists, Kaydan Bush scored twice, Mackenzie Martin added a goal and Brionna Dumaine registered one assist.

Braelyn Stelmack made four saves to clinch Frewsburg’s spot in the semifinals against No. 2 Portville (14-2-1).

WOLVERINES OUSTED

PORTVILLE — Portville shut out No. 7 Westfield/Brocton (7-10-0) 3-0 in the Class C quarterfinals.

Teagan Kosinski got Portville (14-2-1) off to a quick start with a second minute goal and then assisted Meghan Lyle in the 68th minute to seal the deal in the second half. Grace Gariepy potted an unassisted tally in the 12th minute while Mackenzie Harmon made eight saves to send the Panthers into the semifinals.

‘BILLIES ADVANCE

The No. 3 Fredonia Hillbillies blanked No. 6 Springville 3-0 in the Class B2 quarterfinals.

Annie Gondek quickly opened the scoring in the 10th minute and then she later closed it with her second tally in the 31st minute with an assist from Rylee Beers. Between Gondek’s goals, Sophia Gullo found the back of the net with an assist from Francesca Pucci as Fredonia built its 3-0 first half lead.

Fredonia goalkeeper Sarah Davis kept Springville off the board with her six saves.

Fredonia will now play next Wednesday at Sweet Home against No. 7 Akron.

TROJANS FALL TO TOP SEED

MIDDLEPORT — For the second consecutive season No. 9 Southwestern was eliminated from the Class B2 playoffs by No. 1 Royalton-Hartland (13-2-0). The top-seeded Rams kept a clean sheet in the 2-0 victory over the Trojans (9-9-0).

Grace Trombley broke the tie in the 33rd minute with the assist from Allie Trombley and Grace then potted an insurance goal in the 78th minute with a helper from Kaitlin Mettler. The Rams goalie Emma Marsillo was just tested for one save to send them to a semifinal matchup against No. 5 Allegany-Limestone (10-6-2).

RED RAIDERS ELIMINATED

HAMBURG — No. 5 Jamestown fell short to No. 4 Frontier 1-0 in the Class AA quarterfinals.

Morgan Maloney had a heroic effort in net for Jamestown (11-5-0) as she turned aside 21 shots in the contest.

Frontier (8-7-2) will play No. 1 Clarence (15-1-0) next Thursday at North Tonawanda in the semifinals.
