Olean downs Westfield boys

OLEAN — Westfield dug itself a 21-5 whole after the first quarter and couldn’t recover in a 55-47 loss to Olean on Friday night.

Carson Swanson led the Wolverines with 24 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots while Chris Rotunda had 9 points and eight rebounds. Aaron Fuller chipped in 7 points and eight rebounds.

Westfield cut the deficit to three in the third quarter before the Huskies pulled away for the win.

Jack DeRose led Olean with 20 points, including four first-quarter 3-pointers.

Hornell beat Royalton-Hartland in the other first-round game meaning Westfield will take on the Rams and Olean will take on Hornell today.

EAGLES DROP GAME 1

BOLIVAR — The North Collins Eagles dropped their first game of the season to Bolivar Richburg 51-46 on Thursday night.

The Eagles were led by Derek Ebersole’s 25 points, four steals and two rebounds, while Matt Sweet added another 18 points with five rebounds, two steals, two assists and a block.

“They’re going to have to kind of carry us this year,” North Collins head coach Jan Warren stated. “The effort is not a question with the team. I’m proud of how hard they played, but our bigs have to start contributing more.

WOLVERINES WIN

WESTFIELD — Haleigh Dellow had 26 points, eight rebounds and seven steals as Westfield beat Forestville 60-34 in the opening round of the Westfield Holiday Tournament on Friday.

Tanleigh Bestine added 13 points and Makartnee Mortimer had 8 for the Wolverines, who led 31-18 at halftime before Dellow scored 13 of her team’s 19 points in the third quarter.

Sydney Hotchkiss picked up eight steals, Mackenzie Nollinger had six rebounds and Makartnee Mortimer grabbed three rebounds for Westfield, which will play Fredonia in the title game tonight at 7:45.

Morgan Becker led Forestville with 11 points and nine rebounds while Carilene Sliwa had 10 points and six steals.

In the first game of the evening, the Hillbillies beat North Collins 59-16.

Ashlynn Delcamp led Fredonia with 21 points while Gabriela Matos-Dominguez had 9 and Sarah Davis had 8.

Hailey Jasinski led the Eagles with 10 points.

Tonight’s consolation game between Forestville and North Collins will begin at 5:30.
