ERIE, Pa. — The NCCYHA Fredonia Steelers 12U PeeWee Travel team was recently crowned tournament champions of the Erie MLK Cup in the A2 Division, which was held this past weekend at multiple locations in Erie, Pennsylvania.
The Steelers went undefeated in pool play and earned the No. 1 seed by defeating the Allegheny Badgers 4-2, battling to a 2-2 tie with the Cazenovia Chiefs and downing the Wheatfield Blades 4-2.
By using a complete team effort in the championship game, the Steelers outskated the Chiefs 3-1.
Brendan Worczak was strong in net, allowing only seven goals in four games. The Steelers defense led by Marcus Parmentier, Dominick Austin, Ethan Slaven and Jack Hazleton limited the Chiefs to just 11 shots on goal in the title game.
The offense featured six different goal scorers throughout the weekend: Marcus Crane (hat trick vs. Wheatfield), Connor Brentley, Breydon Kuzdale, Landon Trippi and Cole Wood.
The 12U Steelers (11-2) will resume their regular-season schedule in the WNYAHL this Sunday.
An upcoming trip to the Presidential Powerplay in Detroit in February will cap off their tournament play along with WNYAHL playoffs that will conclude in early March.
