T’Birds top Black Knights in overtime at Fredonia State
Nick Jacobson hit a tying 3-pointer in the final seconds of regulation and Lawson Ormsby scored 4 points in overtime as Chautauqua Lake beat Silver Creek 44-39 in nonleague boys basketball action Friday at SUNY Fredonia’s Dods Hall.
With the Black Knights (6-3) leading 39-36 after two Shawn Kelly free throws with 7 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Jacobson inbounded along the sideline and then got the ball back before hitting a 3-pointer from “about 10 feet behind the arc,” according to Silver Creek head coach Ralph Jackson.
The Black Knights got a rushed 3-point attempt up in the final 2 seconds that missed the mark.
In the extra period, Ormsby made a basket and two free throws while Alex Brown added another free throw as the Thunderbirds (3-6) shut out Silver Creek 5-0.
Ormsby scored 21 of his season-high 30 points in the second half and overtime. He had 14 points at the foul line. The Black Knights were without junior Ray Cortes.
“We were short two guys our last game,” Jackson said. “Between illness and people missing, we’re fortunate to have this stretch of nonleague games we’ve had right now.”
Aidan Jamison led Silver Creek with 15 points; Matt Woleben had 8 points, 10 rebounds and three assists; and Simon White had 11 rebounds.
