Ellicottville stays perfect in D2 East with win over North Collins

ELLICOTTVILLE — Ellicottville jumped out to an 18-4 lead after the first quarter on its way to a 53-40 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 East boys basketball victory over North Collins on Monday night.

Leading the way for the Eagles (10-7, 8-0) were Owen Chudy with 15 points and five rebounds; and Caedon Wyatt with 12 points, five rebounds and three steals. Braylon Wyatt contributed 9 points and four assists and four steals.

For North Collins (9-6, 6-2), Matt Sweet had 14 points and three steals; Derek Ebersole had 12 points and four steals; and Zach Quiter pulled down six boards.

SWANSON POURS IN 35

MAYVILLE — Behind 35 points from Carson Swanson, Westfield rolled to a 67-37 Division 2 West victory over Chautauqua Lake.

In addition to his scoring output, which included five 3-pointers, Swanson also collected eight steals, four rebounds and four assists and Carter Russo chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds for the winners, who improved to 12-6 overall and 7-3 in the league.

Westfield led 22-6 after the first quarter and 38-22 at halftime.

Lawson Ormsby led the Thunderbirds (7-10, 5-5) with 11 points and Brendan Klossner chipped in 9.

FALCONER — Falconer had four players score in double figures en route to a 61-39 Division 1 East victory over Portville.

Leading the way for the Golden Falcons (12-4, 6-3) was Rodger Markham, who finished with 15 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Jase Smith added 14 points; Mathis Baehr had 11 and Nathan Bailey chipped in 10. Dom Delaney pulled down 10 rebounds.

Cole Faulkner and Marcus Wilson each had 8 points for the Panthers (3-12, 1-8).

PANTHERS HOLD ON

FRANKLINVILLE — Thanks to success at the foul line late, Franklinville held off Forestville 46-45 in a Division 2 East game.

Bretton Blecha led the way for the Panthers (8-10, 4-4) with 19 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot; and Beau Bielecki finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, six steals, three assists and a blocked shot.

The Hornets (4-13, 2-6), who trailed 28-25 at halftime, were paced by Brayden Smith with 17 points and Joe Villafranca with 10.

GOWANDA — Frewsburg jumped out to a 23-2 lead after the first quarter and rolled to a 78-43 victory over Gowanda in a Division 1 East game.

Connor Murray led the way for the Bears (13-4, 8-2) with 20 points and seven assists. Gavin Smith added 14 points, 12 rebounds and five steals; Zack Carr collected 14 points and seven assists; and Andrew LeBaron chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Quentin Centner led the Panthers (8-10, 2-8) with 14 points, and John Ondus and Tyler Smith had 10 apiece.

WARRIORS DOWN OLEAN

OLEAN — Salamanca clinched at least a share of the Division 1 West title following a 63-56 victory over Olean.

Lucus Brown led the way with 22 points and Andy Herrick chipped in 13.

“I’m just really proud of our team,” Warriors coach Adam Bennett said. “This is an incredibly tough league, night in and night out, with great coaches and great players. We’re getting everybody’s best shot. I’m just really proud of them to win a league title. It was one of our goals, so it’s nice to accomplish that. We’ll enjoy tonight and then tomorrow we’ll get back to work.”

The win improves the Warriors’ record to 15-2 overall and 8-0 in the division. It is Salamanca’s first league title since the 2013-14 season.

The Huskies (7-11, 1-7), who led by five points with about four minutes to go, were led by Thomas Bates with 17 points, Caedyn Tingley with 14, Jack DeRose with 13 and Cade Anastasia with 10.

CLYMER STILL PERFECT IN LEAGUE

Austin White had 17 points and Blake Kopta added 16 to lead Clymer past Maple Grove 49-41 in Division 2 West action.

The Red Dragons (7-10, 3-7) led 13-5 after the first quarter and 23-22 at halftime. The Pirates (14-3, 11-0) then took a 31-29 lead into the final eight minutes.

Jonah Foley and Colin McPherson each had 9 points, while Marcus Laney had 5 points and 17 rebounds for Maple Grove.

SHERMAN — Brayden Hayes led three Sherman players in double figures as the Wildcats edged Panama 47-45 in Division 2 West play.

Hayes finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds, Kegan Ayers had 14 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, and Jacob Swabik had 13 points and five assists for Sherman (10-8, 4-7).

The Panthers (11-5, 6-4) led 25-22 at halftime and 38-33 entering the fourth quarter.

Bryce Hinsdale led Panama with 17 points and three steals, while Alex Barmore had 16 points and seven rebounds.
