Forestville girls capture Section VI Class D bowling title

CHEEKTOWAGA — Abbie Derby is heading to Syracuse.

The Jamestown junior finished fifth overall at the Section VI Girls Bowling Championships on Wednesday at Airport Lanes to punch her ticket to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championships, set for Friday, March 10 through Sunday, March 12 at AMF Strike N Spare.

Derby opened her day with games of 208, 170 and 212 before finishing with games of 247, 146 and 199 for a six-game series of 1,182 pins.

North Tonawanda won the overall, Division I and Class B titles with a 972-863-977-828-946-843-5,429. Bridget Cake was the Lumberjacks’ top individual bowler, finishing in third place overall with a 223-180-241-181-188-192-1,205. North Tonawanda’s Emma Snowman was 14th (1,121), Allison Cake was 27th (1,090), Tessa Moderacki was 45th (1,028) and Sophia Haley was 63rd (985).

Forestville won the Class D championship with a 736-806-823-807-741-815-4,278. Dakota VanArsdale led the Hornets with a 180-192-163-164-143-191-1,033 followed by Alexandra Kerstetter’s 158-176-153-189-165-182-1,023. Mackenzy Graziano had a 986, Emily Lillie an 829 and Aspen VanArsdale a 731.

Fredonia finished second in Division II and Class C with an 859-796-844-783-843-733-4,858. Londyn Wilmot led the Hillbillies with a 188-168-169-192-217-150-1,084 and Allie Cook rolled a 153-172-191-172-195-171-1,054. Jaelyn Davis spun a 1,003 and Jenna Truby a 920.

Jamestown was eighth in Class A and 10th in Division I with an 843-788-823-802-725-785-4,766. Following Derby’s 1,182 were Addison Cappalino’s 999, Jamie Beaver’s 924, Mckenna Cuifolo’s 875 and Macy Bailey’s 786.

Frewsburg was ninth in Division II and fourth in Class D with an 805-728-735-740-742-747-4,497. Kelsey Fischer’s 197-231-145-149-186-154 paced the Bears, while Jasmine Estabrook had a 953 and Cloey Linn spilled a 918.

Falconer was 11th in Division II and fifth in Class D with a 679-659-764-627-810-728-4,267. Rachael Wallace’s 975 led the Golden Falcons followed by Kaitlyn Swan’s 927, Marabella Parsons’ 878, Alexis Cross’ 816 and Elizabeth Patterson’s 671.

Randolph was 13th in Division II and sixth in Class D with a 717-739-728-599-662-681-4,126. Alyssa Milks paced the Cardinals with a 193-183-204-117-131-188-1,016. Mara-Rae Harvey had a 970 and Nickola Whitford rolled an 813.

Gowanda was 14th in Division II and seventh in Class D with a 717-739-728-599-662-681-4,089. Aubrey Smuda led the Panthers with a 947 followed by Demetra Spire (879) and Sierra Twoguns (770).

Salamanca was 15th in Division II and eighth in Class D with a 642-712-596-663-712-674-3,999. Faith Brown paced the Warriors with an 819 followed by Kathryn Lockhart’s 782.

Rolling as individuals, Dunkirk’s Hayden Cerrie rolled a 1,096 and the Marauders’ Tayler Skelly had a 1,089, Silver Creek’s Emily Bartlette-Dye had a 1,026, Cassadaga Valley’s Kristin Wise cracked a 1,001, Ellicottville’s Emma Lafferty spun a 995 and Silver Creek’s Laneya Olsen rolled a 941.

Joining Derby in Syracuse will be Maryvale’s Emma Jones (196-246-235-194-257-245-1,373), Orchard Park’s Jillian Yarnes (207-194-166-180-266-217-1,230), Clarence’s Sarah Zulick (190-211-159-214-194-227-1,195), Kenmore’s Kaelynn Weber (208-203-171-194-194-194-1-164) and Orchard Park’s Thea Nahrebeski (246-200-160-217-142-194-1,159).

The boys Section VI Championships will be held today at Airport Lanes, beginning at 9 a.m.
