North Collins moves on to Class D semis
NORTH COLLINS — Matt Sweet led four players in double figures as No. 3 North Collins held off No. 6 Franklinville 73-64 in a Section VI Class D quarterfinal boys basketball game Friday night.
Sweet finished with 23 points, eight rebounds and three steals; Derek Ebersole added 20 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals; Asher Parnitzke contributed 17 points and nine boards; and Walter Ebersole chipped in 10 points and five rebounds.
The win improved the Eagles to 11-8 and sets up a semifinal meeting with No. 2 Clymer (18-3), a 60-42 winner over No. 10 Barker. That game is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. Monday at Jamestown Community College.
“We’re not happy just to be there,” North Collins coach Jan Warren said, “but they’re going to be hard to beat. It’s going to be a hard matchup, but our guys are going to have to come to play. Clymer doesn’t make a lot of mistakes. (Sweet) doesn’t want his basketball career to end, so he’s gong to go out here and play as hard as he can.”
Leading the way for the Panthers (10-12), who cut an 18-point deficit to four points in the third quarter to make it a game, were led by Bretton Blecha with 18 points, followed by Beau Bielecki with 14 and Grant Cornell with 13.
