CHEEKTOWAGA — The NCCYHA Steelers 14U Bantam MOHL team was crowned undefeated league playoff champions of the WNYAHL on Sunday.

During the regular season, the Steelers finished on top of the league standings with a record of 18-0.

Semifinal playoff games were held on March 12, with the Steelers downing the Olean Arrows 5-3 and the Hamburg Hawks edging the Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles 4-3.

In last Sunday’s championship game, the Hawks and the Steelers skated evenly in the first period, with the Steelers holding a 2-1 lead. Throughout the second and third periods, the Steelers took control, outscoring the Hawks 4-1 in the second period and 4-0 in the third for a 10-2 victory.

Leading the way offensively for the Steelers were linemates Max Hazelton (three goals, two assists) and Ayden Wronski (three goals, two assists). Others adding to the offense for the Steelers were Emmett Williams (two goals, one assist), Blake Waterman (one goal, one assist), Mason Miller (one goal), Seth Davidson (two assists), Jacob Schneider (two assists), Alex Madurski (two assists) and Angelica Mullen (one assist).

The strong defensive pairings of Cameron DeLaO, Madurski, A. Mullen, Miller, and S. Davidson kept the Hawks grounded throughout, limiting them to 23 shots on net. Lucas Davidson earned the win in both playoff games between the pipes.

The Steelers, who led the league in scoring, amassing 190 goals while only allowing 40, will now turn their attention to the upcoming Rock & Roll Cup tournament in Cleveland this Friday through Sunday where they will play teams from Pittsburgh; Strongsville, Ohio and Northern Michigan.
