Silver Creek/Forestville rolls past Chautauqua Lake 7-2

JAMESTOWN — Silver Creek/Forestville’s Max Vigue and John Steinwachs combined on a four-hitter as Silver Creek/Forestville beat Chautauqua Lake 7-2 in nonleague baseball Thursday at Russell E. Diethrick Jr. Park.

Vigue threw the first four innings, allowing a run on one hit while walking three and hitting a batter. Steinwachs finished with three innings of three-hit, one-run ball during which he struck out four, walked two and hit a batter.

Kam Sakpal reached on an error to open the game and stole two bases before scoring on a Aiden Piccolo sacrifice fly to give the Black Knights (6-4) a 1-0 lead.

The Thunderbirds tied the game in the bottom of the frame. Devin Hewes doubled down the left-field line and scored on an error.

Silver Creek/Forestville (6-4) took the lead for good in the top of the second inning when Joe Villafranca reached second on an error, went to third on a wild pitch and scored when Thomas Hogg reached on a two-out error and the throw was wild.

The Black Knights added two more runs in the third inning. Sakpal walked and went to second on a balk before scoring on Piccolo’s RBI double. Caleb Fiegl followed with an RBI single.

Sakpal walked again in the top of the fifth inning and stole two bases before scoring on a bases-loaded balk to make it 5-1.

Chautauqua Lake scored its final run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Evan Flurie singled, stole second, went to third on a Cordell Rivera sacrifice bunt and scored on an error.

Joel Dolce reached on an error and went to second on a wild pitch before Sakpal walked for the third time in the game with one out in the sixth inning. Brayson Parsell then reached on an error to force in Dolce and Piccolo hit an RBI groundout to finish the scoring.

Nick Webb, Cayden Blackman and Clayton Smith combined on a three-hitter with nine strikeouts and four walks for the Thunderbirds (3-6).

FREWSBURG RALLIES

SINCLAIRVILLE — Frewsburg rallied from behind to defeat Cassadaga Valley 7-2 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 action.

After Cassadaga Valley’s Hunter Johnson hurled five scoreless innings and struck out four batters, Frewsburg finally broke through and got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning.

Mason Eckman led the Bears (8-2, 5-0) going 3 for 4 with a two-run double in the sixth, and Maddox Sheesley added a double in the frame. Vincent Sanfilippo added two hits and a triple for Frewsburg.

Garrett Williams led the Cougars (2-6, 1-5) with two hits including a double, Owen Myers added two hits and Calvin Hilliker had one hit.

Eckman started on the mound for Frewsburg. He struck out three batters and gave up one run through three innings of work. Sheesley then came in for three innings, giving up one run and striking out four while picking up the win. Payton Dustin threw the final inning and struck out the side.

PORTVILLE HITS 3 HRs

ELLICOTTVILLE — Portville pounded out 15 hits, including three home runs, and took advantage of 23 walks by Ellicottville pitchers in a 31-5 five-inning Division 3 victory.

Luke Petryszak was 3 for 3 with a home run, six RBIs and four runs scored; Mario Pascucci was 2 for 2 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored; and Michael Cole homered, drove in six runs and scored three runs.

Caedon Wyatt doubled for Ellicottville, which totaled six hits.

WEDNESDAY

WESTFIELD PREVAILS

Westfield grabbed an early led on its way to a 7-3 victory over Chautauqua Lake in a Division 2 baseball game Wednesday.

Danny Bratton and Carter Russo shared the pitching duties for the Wolverines (2-2, 1-2). Offensively, Aaron Fuller, Bratton, Russo and Tristan Phillips all had one hit; Phillips had three of the team’s seven stolen bases; and Mason Baum, Joel Stein and Chris Vacanti drove in a run apiece.

Devin Hewes and Nate Henry shared the pitching duties for the Thunderbirds (3-5, 3-3), and Nolan Olson and Lawson Ormsby had multiple hits.
