BOSTON -- Charles Mancino, a Fredonia native, ran the 2023 Boston Marathon on Monday.

"It was my second in-person Boston Marathon," Mancino said. "I wasn't expecting to do well due to my training and the weather conditions, which were humid and, at times, downpours, but I ran 17 seconds faster than I did last year."

Mancino's final time was 2:48:12.

"I'm really happy with that time, all things considered. It's my second-fastest marathon to date. I didn't do so well in my marathons last fall, so coming back and running my third sub-three-hour marathon was a great surprise for me."

Mancino came in 1,504th overall, 1,437th out of men, and 1,180th in his gender and age group (18-39).

"It was really touching, too, since it marked the 10th anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing, so running on the anniversary race made it mean more for me," said Mancino.

Mancino's next race is to be the 2023 New York City Marathon this fall.
