Corbett hits grand slam as Dunkirk coasts 13-0
Zach Zentz shined on the mound and Brady Corbett drilled a grand-slam home run and an RBI triple lead Dunkirk to a 13-0 victory over Jamestown in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 baseball game on Saturday.
Dylan Bankoski, who pitched the sixth, and final inning, finished with three hits, two RBIs and three runs scored to help the Marauders improve to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in the league.
Dunkirk scored three runs in the second; one in the third, courtesy of Donnie Jackson’s RBI double; three in the fourth, highlighted by Waldemere Morales’ run-scoring single; two in the fifth on Corbett’s triple and Jackson’s RBI single; and four in the sixth on Corbett’s grand slam.
10-RUN INNING LIFTS FREDONIA
OLEAN — Tied 2-2 entering the top of the fifth inning, Fredonia scored 10 runs en route to a 12-2 Division 1 victory.
The Hillbillies scored their 10 runs in the fifth on four hits, five walks and three hit batters. Andrew Cowan had a single and an RBI double in the frame while Ashton Putney added an RBI double, Owen Rush singled and had a sacrifice fly, and Colin Crowell had an RBI groundout.
Matt Cash threw the abbreviated complete game for Fredonia (6-6, 5-3). He struck out four while allowing four hits and no walks. He faced just two batters over the minimum in his final four innings on the mound.
The Huskies (4-6, 3-4) scored twice in the first inning as Austin Miles doubled and Chase Vogli singled before an error and a Cal Vogtli groundout plated the runs.
In the Hillbillies’ second inning, Nathan Sercu and Cash walked before scoring on Micah Davis’ two-out single.
T’BIRDS RALLY PAST BULLDOGS
BROCTON — Chautauqua Lake scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead en route to a 6-4 Division 2 win over Brocton.
Nate Henry singled and scored twice while Brett Meadows added a single and two RBIs for the Thunderbirds (4-6, 4-3). Devin Hewes started and struck out one in two innings before Henry relieved for the final five innings and struck out four. They combined to allow four hits.
Junior Damian Franklin hit his first career home run, a two-run shot in the first inning for the Bulldogs (6-3, 4-3). Grant Gustafson (RBI), Nate Laurito and Aiden Gatto singled for Brocton. Kadin Ehmke threw four innings and struck out nine before Gatto threw the final two innings and struck out one.
COUGARS DOWN WESTFIELD
SINCLAIRVILLE — Cassadaga Valley trailed 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning before scoring twice to beat Westfield 6-5 in Division 2 action.
Braden LeBaron and Calvin Hilliker each had a pair of hits for the Cougars (3-8, 2-7). Kyle Ingersol threw a complete game and scattered seven hits while striking out three.
Mikail Lawrence had two hits for the Wolverines (2-5, 1-5). Aaron Fuller and Chris Vacanti combined for 11 strikeouts while allowing eight hits.
BRINK HAS BIG DAY
SOUTH DAYTON — Frewsburg led 9-0 after three innings and beat Pine Valley 10-1 in Division 2 action.
Garrett Brink went 3 for 4 with a triple, four RBIs and two runs scored; Mason Eckman doubled and scored two runs; Harrison Eckert singled and scored twice; and Trent Lewis singled and scored twice for the Bears (10-2, 7-0).
Maddox Sheesley threw four innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out four. Aidan Gruber and Vicnent Sanfilippo threw the final three innings and combined for eight strikeouts.
Darwin Westlund doubled while Jaiden Miller, Trent Ivett and Jack Sheldon each singled for the Panthers (3-6, 1-5).
