Brady Corbett hit a three-run home run to jump-start a seven-run first inning and No. 3 Dunkirk beat No. 6 Alden 13-3 in five innings of Section VI Class B1 quarterfinal play Tuesday at Al Stuhlmiller Field.
Next up for the Marauders is a 5 p.m. Thursday semifinal date at No. 2 Depew, which beat No. 7 East Aurora 7-2 in another Tuesday quarterfinal.
Tyler Karin and Paul Trippy III reached base to open the bottom of the first inning before Corbett’s one-out blast.
“We were pumped up,” Dunkirk head coach Frank Jagoda said. “Coming out and having Brady hit that three-run homer off the start just ignited us. It was a big advantage to get up 3-0.”
Donny Jackson followed with a single before walks to Greg Orcutt and Anthony Piede loaded the bases. Zachary Zentz then hit a two-run single that got past Alden’s left fielder allowing Piede to also score on the play. Zentz wound up on second and scored on an RBI single by Karin.

Corbett finished with three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored.
“Just a super job by a senior to come out and play excellent baseball today,” Jagoda said.
Zentz threw all five innings, allowing three hits and three runs (one earned) while striking out six. He exceeded the pitch limit to be able to throw again Thursday by just two pitches.
“We’ll have Captain Karin on the mound with some relief pitchers that are ready to go,” Jagoda said. “They’ll be just as important as the guy on the mound to start the game.”
Karin, Jackson, Piede and Zentz all finished with two hits apiece for the Marauders.
“Nos. 1-9 we’re just doing well throughout the entire order,” Jagoda said. “We know we’re facing a good team with some solid pitching. I think we can match them on the mound, we just need to hit the ball.”

BEMUS POINT — After a relentless effort, No. 8 Barker managed to upset No. 1 Maple Grove 8-5 in the Section VI Class D quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Barker’s Aidan Voss pitched a complete game against the Red Dragons, giving up just seven hits.
“Voss pitched a heck of a game,” Maple Grove head coach Pete Pannes said. “He was the main reason we couldn’t get past them tonight. He is a nice ball player.”
The Raiders took it to the Red Dragons early, but Maple Grove did manage to figure out Voss eventually. Colin McPherson hit a two-run home run; Nash Luther hit a double and scored in the second inning; Connor Reagle had two hits, including a double, he scored once and had an RBI; and Drew Oste had a hit and an RBI.

PITCHING PUTS GOWANDA IN SEMIS
GOWANDA — Cole Herman struck out eight batters and gave up just three hits to lead No. 1 Gowanda past No. 8 Chautauqua Lake 10-0 in a complete-game five-inning performance in the Section VI Class C quarterfinals.
“Pitching paved the way for us,” Gowanda head coach Tim Smith said. “That was the big difference, he got ahead of virtually every batter.”
Gowanda picked up early run support thanks to a leadoff triple from Blake Herman, which was followed up by an Alex Pachucinski RBI fielder’s choice. Pachucinski then went on to finish the game 2 for 4 with four RBIs. John Ondus later tripled and scored, while Carter Capozzi finished 1 for 3 with two RBIs.

“We went down to C/S/P two years ago and haven’t seen them since then,” Smith added. “I expect it to be one of the toughest games this year. We’re at the point in the season where if you let up, it’s the end of the year.”
WOLFPACK SCORES LATE TO WIN
CLYMER — No. 4 Clymer/Sherman/Panama was held off the score board for the first five innings, but that didn’t matter as three pitchers combined for a 4-0 one-hit shutout victory over No. 5 Holland in the Class C quarterfinals.
