Herman, Cash receive D1’s top honors

OBSERVER File Photo by Matt Spielman Gowanda catcher Blake Herman was named the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 baseball Al Stuhlmiller Player of the Year this season.

A Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 championship and a trip to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class C Far West Regional have garnered Gowanda some additional postseason accolades.

Sophomore catcher Blake Herman was recently named the Al Stuhlmiller Player of the Year and the Panthers’ Tim Smith was named the Coach of the Year.

Fredonia senior Matt Cash was honored with the Roger K. Moore Pitcher of the Year.

Herman was joined on the First Team by senior teammates infielder John Ondus, pitcher/outfielder Alex Pachucinski and infielder Tyler Smith.

Cash was joined on the First Team by junior infielder/pitcher Owen Rush.

Dunkirk was represented on the First Team by senior infielder Brady Corbett and senior infielder/pitcher Tyler Karin.

Southwestern senior infielder/pitcher Dustin Hendrix and junior pitcher/outfielder Jameson Walsh, Olean senior infielder Thomas Bates and Jamestown junior outfielder/pitcher Caleb Piazza rounded out the First Team.

Dunkirk and Fredonia each had three players named to the Second Team.

Sophomore outfielder Dylan Bankoski, junior catcher Donnie Jackson and junior pitcher Zachary Zentz represented the Marauders, while sophomore catcher Andrew Cowan, senior outfielder Micah Davis and sophomore infielder/pitcher Ashton Putney represented the Hillbillies.

Gowanda freshman infielder/pitcher Carter Capozzi and senior outfielder/pitcher Cole Herman; Allegany-Limestone sophomore outfielder Sean Conroy; Southwestern senior catcher/pitcher/infielder Lucas Gilbert; Falconer senior utilityman Brodie Little; Jamestown freshman catcher Carter Rizzuto; and Olean junior infielder/pitcher Aaron Vincent rounded out the Second Team.

Falconer senior Dalton Caldwell was named the league’s Pete Criscione Sportsmanship Award winner. Other Sportsmanship Award honorees were: Allegany-Limestone senior Andrew Forrest, Dunkirk sophomore Paul Trippy, Fredonia sophomore Luca Gullo, Ondus, Jamestown senior Brandon Lobb, Olean junior Andre Fratercangelo and Southwestern freshman George Marshall.
