Cole Snyder’s journey to NCAA Division I football was jump-started on the artificial turf at Charles A. Lawson Field.

Now the University at Buffalo quarterback is hoping to instill some of his knowledge into the young minds of tomorrow’s local stars.

Snyder, a 2019 Southwestern Central School graduate, will host the Cole Snyder 2023 Cecret Sauce Football Camp on Saturday, July 8, at the Fran Sirianni Athletic Complex in West Ellicott.

The camp, which will run from 4-7 p.m. that day, is open to student-athletes at all positions entering eighth through 12th grade this coming school year and cost $65 per camper. The deadline to register is this Saturday, July 1.

“I really just wanted to give back to the community that raised me,” Snyder said Tuesday evening. “I look back at my time going through high school and where I’m at now, and recognize all the people that helped me get to where I’m at … just helping me become a man. I’ve learned so much.”

Campers will receive elite coaching from seven current starting University at Buffalo players — linebacker Shaun Dolac, wide receivers Cole Harrity, Tre Hines and Boobie Curry, offensive lineman Sidney Walker, tight end Zion Carter and defensive end Max Michel — former college football players, and current high school and college coaches — quarterback coach John Kinder, Southwestern Trojans head coach Jake Burkholder, Alfred University linebackers coach Casey Williams and Southwestern track and field coach Lauren Swan.

“I think it’s awesome that they volunteered their time,” Snyder said of his Bulls teammates. “We don’t get a ton of time off. They are taking time when they could be doing anything else, and want to give back to these kids.”

The players and coaches will work with campers on position-specific technique training that will lead into 1-on-1 sessions and 7-on-7 sessions later in the evening. Small groups will be utilized to increase reps and development. There will also be speed and agility training, as well as combine preparation in the 40-yard dash and broad jump. In addition to end-of-the-day competitions, there will be a skills contest.

“Throughout my four or five years of college, I feel like not giving back to the community and not teaching some of these kids the things I’ve learned would be a waste,” Snyder said.

The current UB players will be available to talk about the recruiting process and their college experiences with a question-and-answer session.

“When I was in high school, I loved going to camps and working with college players, asking questions about their experiences,” Snyder said. “I think it’s going to be a great experience for kids to learn, ask questions and really take what we have learned as college players to help them apply that to their journeys.”

After transferring to UB from Rutgers prior to last season, Snyder started all 13 games for the Bulls and led them to a berth in the Camellia Bowl. After a three-game nonconference losing streak to start the season, UB won five straight games. A win over Akron in their final game of the regular season made the Bulls bowl-eligible. All told, Snyder completed 271-of-461 passes for 3,030 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also ran for 146 yards and four touchdowns.

“I’m super excited about this season. We have a new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, which I’m really excited about,” he said. “I think the UB offense is going to be a really high-powered offense this year and I expect great things out of it.”

Campers are asked to bring cleats and water, and quarterbacks are asked to bring their own football if available. The camp will also be collecting new and used sports equipment for Western New York children in need. CS T-shirts, autographed UB schedules and outstanding camper awards will be given out to participants.
