WESTFIELD — Seventh-inning fireworks dominated the day as the Larry’s Cantina Pirates (3-1) took down the Coughlan’s Pub Yankees (2-1) 4-3.
It was a pitcher’s duel through six innings with each team scoring only one run. A Joe Polichetti sacrifice fly in the first inning plated the Yanks’ run and a frozen rope, solo home run off the bat of Max Schrantz (two hits, two runs scored) was the Pirates’ tally in the fourth.
The last inning saw a two-run homer from Joe Pantano (double, two runs scored) put the Bombers ahead 3-1. Not to be outdone, the Bucs responded with three runs in the home half of the seventh, as a result of two walks, three hit batsmen and an RBI single from Nick Quagliana (two hits). Ultimately it was Jon Coe who was credited with the winning RBI. Tony Walker also doubled for the winners.
Nolan Hunt’s complete game five-hitter, earned him the victory on the mound for the Pirates. Hunt struck out 11 while walking only one.
Matt Eaker was equally as impressive for the Yanks, pitching six innings of one-run ball, with 11 strikeouts and one walk.
