JAMESTOWN — Drew Garth (Seton Hill University) hit a two-out RBI single to score Matt Thompson (Youngstown State University) with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Jamestown Tarp Skunks beat the Batavia Muckdogs 4-3 in Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League West Division action Monday night at Diethrick Park.

Jamestown’s Evan Berta (Fairfield University) worked around a walk to get out of a bases-loaded jam by striking out the side in the top of the 10th inning to earn the win.

The Tarp Skunks led 2-0 early with a pair of first-inning runs. Paul Catalano (Fairfield University) and Tommy Googins (Princeton University) both walked before Jake Kernodle (Princeton University) hit an RBI single to right field. Googins was thrown out attempting to reach third base on the play, but Kernodle advanced to second and scored when the next batter, Henry Juan (Williams College), doubled to left field.

Batavia got a run back in the top of the second when Giuseppe Arcuri doubled and later scored on an RBI groundout by Brice Mortillaro.

The Muckdogs took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third inning. Kyle Hetherington and Caleb Rodriguez opened the frame with back-to-back singles before a double steal with one out. Adam Agresti then drove them both in with a two-run single.

Jamestown tied the game in the bottom of the third. Catalano opened the inning with a walk, stole second and third, and then eventually stole home before Juan was caught stealing second after a walk.

Neither team would score again until the Tarp Skunks won the game in the 10th.

Evan Chaffee (St. John’s University) threw the first five innings of five-hit ball, allowing three runs and three walks while striking out eight for Jamestown. Ryan Rafalski (Mercyhurst University) then threw four innings of two-hit ball with two walks and four strikeouts before Berta’s final inning.

The Tarp Skunks return to action Wednesday at Diethrick Park with a doubleheader against the Newark Pilots.

Starting at $3.50/week.
