CHAUTAUQUA — Four stalwart golfers took on the challenge of a golf marathon at Chautauqua Golf Club on Wednesday to raise funds for the New York State Golf Association Foundation Scholarship Program. Playing in twosomes with individual golf carts, Jenn Flanagan, Colleen Reeve, Cam Crist and Drew Kelemen each completed 100 holes, averaging just over 1¢ hours per 18 holes.

The NYSGA Foundation is the 501(c)3 arm of the New York State Golf Association. Its scholarship program grants awards to employees of member golf clubs across the state. Recipients must be in good academic standing, be in at least their second season working at a member club and have a financial need. Once approved, scholarships are renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study.

Two Chautauqua Golf Club employees are new scholarship recipients for the 2023-2024 academic year: Callen Barron (cart barn) and Brady Fye (green crew). Renewing scholars for the coming academic year are Joshua Cable, who worked at Moon Brook Country Club for four seasons before taking an internship this summer; and Kyler Majka who spent two summers on the green crew at CGC before landing a teacher’s assistant position this summer. Also, David Allen, a former employee of Moon Brook CC was on scholarship for the past year at SUNY Fredonia where he was a 2023 graduate.

Chautauqua GC members enthusiastically supported the marathon players and the scholarship recipients by donating more than $14,000. Anyone wishing to donate to the NYSGA Foundation to support the scholarship program can do so online at charity.pledgeit.org/2023NYSGA or by mailing a check to 4933 Jamesville Road, Jamesville, New York, 13078.

Starting at $3.50/week.
