VENANGO, Pa. — Josh Hilliker set a new Wednesday Travel League course record with an even-par 72 at Country Meadows Golf Course.

Hilliker broke the old record of 74, held by Ron Szach. Golfers played the back nine in rainy conditions, which is when Hilliker caught fire, making birdies on four of six holes for the low back nine of a 3-under par 33. Mike Wolfe started the day with a bang, making birdies on four of the first five holes en route to the low front nine of a 1-under par 35.

Bob North finished second with a personal league best 75. Mike Schwertfager was third with 77. Also breaking 80 were Ed Tofil (78), and Wolfe and Jeff Nelson (79s). Pete Pinkoski bested last week’s personal best by one stroke, shooting a new personal best 83. Dave Wallace and Mike Willoughby won the B and C Flights, respectively. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Mick Dunning Sr.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Wolfe (Nos. 2, 18), Schwertfager (No. 7), Tofil (Nos. 12, 16) and Hilliker (No. 13); B Flight — Jim Ellman Sr. (No. 3), Tom Destro (No. 8), Wallace (Nos. 9, 10, 12, 13), Pat Weaver (No. 15) and Wayne Ormsby (No. 18); C Flight — Willoughby (Nos. 4, 5), Tom Sacilowski (Nos. 9, 14), Bob Kujawa (No. 11) and Dunning (No. 12).

Closest to the pin were: Wolfe (No. 2), Pinkoski (No. 8), Hilliker (No. 11) and Ormsby (No. 17). Winners of the Steeplechase were Hilliker (A Flight), Gary Haase (B) and Bob Kujawa (C).
