Maple Grove XC wins at Long Point

BEMUS POINT — Ethan Verbosky of Maple Grove and Ryanna Brady of Salamanca crossed the finish line first in their respective races to highlight Tuesday’s Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association cross country meets at Long Point State Park.
In the boys race, Verbosky toured the 3.1-mile course in 17:24, leading the Red Dragons to a perfect 15-50 victory over Dunkirk. Falconer/Cassadaga Valley and Salamanca were incomplete.
Sean Verbosky was second in 17:48, followed by teammates Josh Asbaugh (19:09), Jacob Lewis (19:19), Tyler Anderson (19:24) and Owen Earlandson (19:26). Rounding out the top 10 were Jaden Binkley of Falconer/Cassadaga Valley (19:40), Brent Troutman of Falconer/Cassadaga Valley (20:44), Brennan Muecke of Maple Grove (20:44) and Johnee Thomas of Dunnkirk (20:49).
In the girls race, Brady posted a winning time of 21:36, followed by Maple Grove’s Presley Haines (22:13) and Dunkirk’s Hanan Mohammad (22:19). The Red Dragons were the only complete team.
Evalyn Fessel, Lily Bohall, Ellie Brunenavs and Mae Benedetto completed Maple Grove’s scoring five. Marcella Seekings was Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s top runner, finishing in ninth place.

KENT, FLIKKEMA SHOW THE WAY
FREWSBURG — Cody Kent of Frewsburg and Tess Flikkema of Clymer/Sherman/Panama were victorious on the 3.1-mile course.
Kent posted a winning time of 16:14, 40 seconds ahead of teammate Juvenal Diaz (16:54), while Flikkema just held off teammate Solki Martin-Lacayo (22:46).
In the boys race, the Bears finished first with 35 points, the Wolfpack was second with 43, Fredonia was third with 70 and Olean was fourth with 74.
In the girls race, C/S/P placed first, second, third, fifth and sixth for a team score of 17. Fredonia was second with 20. Frewsburg and Olean were incomplete
