Nelson, Cardinals edge Portville in boys soccer 3-2
RANDOLPH — Griffin Nelson netted a pair of late second half goals to propel Randolph past Portville 3-2 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association East Division action on Thursday.
Randolph just snuck past the Panthers thanks to Nelson’s goal assisted by Drew Hind in the 77th minute. Nelson first scored in the 58th minute from Isaac Pihlblad and Cooper Freeman scored the Cardinals first goal unassisted in the 20th minute.
The Cardinals narrow victory keeps the undefeated season alive with a 8-0 overall record and 4-0 league record.
BEARS, EAGLES TIE
NORTH COLLINS — Derek Ebersole scored in the 72nd minute to bring North Collins level with Frewsburg for an eventual 1-1 tie in Central Division action.
Kenton Dahlin made 11 saves in net for Frewsburg, but Ebersole was finally able to break through with an assist from Richard Baumler for North Collins (1-3-1, 1-2-1) with eight minutes left in regulation.
Frewsburg (5-3-1, 2-1-1) scored the first goal of the contest in the 20th minute as Ethan Swan found the back of the net unassisted.
GOLDEN COUGARS DOMINATE
CATTARAUGUS — Ethyn Gilbert scored a hat trick and added an assist in Cassadaga Valley/Falconer’s 8-0 win over Salamanca/Cattaraugus-Little Valley in East Division play.
Gilbert’s pair of goals and assists helped Cassadaga Valley/Falconer (5-3, 3-1) build a 3-0 lead by halftime, before five quick goals were added in the second half.
Getting in on the action with the Golden Cougars was Nathan Bailey with two goals, Connor Main scored and assisted, Calvin Hilliker had two assists, Cameron Katilus and Gavin Penhollow scored once each and Clayton Evans, Gabe Lundmark and Macaulay Maher had an assist apiece.
Salamanca/Cattaraugus-Little Valley falls to 1-7 overall and 1-3 in league with the loss.
GATORS BLANK ‘BILLIES
ALLEGANY — Zander Parsons dished two assists and picked up a goal as Allegany-Limestone shutout Fredonia 4-0 in West Division action.
Sean Conroy opened the scoring in the 27th minute from Cooper Wilczewski and Jesse Decker added another a minute later from Parsons as Allegany-Limestone (4-1, 2-1) took a 2-0 halftime lead. It wasn’t long into the second half when Tyler Slocum scored from Parsons and then an unassisted tally from Parsons really put the game out of reach at 4-0 in the 54th minute.
Fredonia (3-4, 1-3) had seven saves from Andrew Cowan in net.
KRAFT, FOLEY DOMINATE
Ty Kraft and Jonah Foley both had hat tricks in Maple Grove’s 8-0 Central Division victory over Chautauqua Lake.
Drew Oste had a goal and four assists; Keegan Rishel had a goal and an assist; and Dan Schlemmer had an assist for the Red Dragons (6-1-0, 4-0-0).
The Thunderbirds fell to 2-6-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the league.
ELLICOTTVILLE ROLLS PANTHERS
ELLICOTTVILLE — Sam Edwards had seven goal contributions to lead Ellicottville past Pine Valley/Gowanda 12-0 in East Division play.
Edwards had a hat trick by the 13th minute for Ellicottville and then added four assists in the big victory. Ellicottville (7-2, 3-1) added a pair of goals from Owen Doherty and one goal each was scored by Emmett Jacobson-Coolidge, Kyle Robinson, Will Benatovich, Toby Coburn, Merek Peters, Tosh Klein and Evan Bauer. Adding one assist apiece was Ben Edwards, Maddox Johnson, Christopher Edwards, Benatovich, Klein and Peters.
