Wednesday Travel League plays at Maplehurst

LAKEWOOD — The Wednesday Travel League was able to enjoy another glorious fall day with an event at Maplehurst Country Club.

Wayne Stoughton shot the low round of 74 for his fourth tour victory of the season. Josh Hilliker and Ed Tofil tied for second place with 78s. Tofil led the front nine with 37 while Stoughton led the back nine with 36. Tom Sacilowski and Dan Kubera won the B and C Flights respectively. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Lenny Leszkowicz.

With the victory, Stoughton is now tied with Hilliker for 10th place in career wins with 23 apiece. Hilliker, the league’s scoring average leader this season at 79.82, shot his sixth consecutive round under 80, giving him 15 such rounds for the season, tying the single-season record held by the late great Ron “Moonie” Rys. Hilliker also recorded four birdies in his round, bringing up his season total to 51, matching the single-season record held by Tofil.

In the coveted overall points race, Sacilowski was able to maintain his 24-point lead over Hilliker, with both golfers recording 40 points.
