Bestine leads Westfield to victory
Wolverines retain Winter Classic trophy

WESTFIELD — The Westfield girls basketball team trailed Fredonia 19-12 at halftime of the championship game in the Westfield Winter Classic on Saturday.
However, Westfield managed to defend its title due to an inspired effort by Tanleigh Bestine as she scored 10 points in the third quarter to give the Wolverines the lead. Bestine finished with a game-high 24 points as she claimed the Tournament MVP with Westfield winning 36-31.
Fredonia was led by Ashlyn Delcamp with 9 points and Ella Koopman added 6 points on a pair of three-pointers.
Making the All-Tournament Team was Brocton’s Collie Bundy, Cassadaga Valley’s Emiley Anderson, Piper Walnicki and Koopman from Fredonia, and Sophia Wolfe from Westfield. The Team Sportsmanship Award was given to Brocton.

COUGARS ROLL PAST BROCTON
WESTFIELD — Emiley Anderson scored 27 points, Andrea Johnson had 23 and Payton Meder chipped in 15 to lead Cassadaga Valley to an 81-24 victory over Brocton.
The Cougars roared to a 29-4 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.

SALAMANCA BREEZES
SALAMANCA — Lezly McComber scored 20 points and tournament Most Valuable Player Karina Crouse added 18 to send Salamanca to a 66-25 victory over Chautauqua Lake in the championship game of the Salamanca Tournament.
The Warriors raced to a 27-2 lead after the first quarter, a margin that grew to 44-15 at intermission.
Taylor Donato scored 10 points to lead Chautauqua Lake.
Joining McComber and Crouse on the all-tournament team were Donato, Lauren Kelly of Gowanda and Cecelia Gullo of Park.
