Division 1 West All-Stars announced

Portville won another New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class C volleyball championship this fall.

It’s no surprise the Panthers dominated the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West all-star team this winter.

Portville senior Ava Haynes was named the league’s Most Valuable Player, while senior Lillian Bentley, sophomore Mia Rhinehart, sophomore Adelyn Walker and junior Adriana Ensell joined her on the First Team as the league’s coaches released their all-star team recently.

Second-place Falconer placed Hannah Melquist, Nylah Sharpe and Augustine Krenzer on the First Team. Melquist, a sophomore, had 430 assists, 170 kills, 137 digs, 90 aces and 17 blocks. Sharpe, a sophomore, had 237 digs, 49 assists and 39 aces. Krenzer, a junior, had 121 digs, 103 kills, 43 aces, 29 assists and 18 blocks.

Third-place Southwestern, which won Section VI and Far West Regional Class B titles, was represented on the First Team by seniors Lauren Cotter and Jaidyn Newhouse. Cotter finished with 266 kills, 142 digs, 86 aces, 37 blocks and 13 assists, while Newhouse had 166 kills, 35 aces, 32 blocks and 21 digs.

Senior Sophie Bartman represented fourth-place Olean, while senior Tullah Hasselberg and sophomore Serena Frederick represented fifth-place Allegany-Limestone.

Players named to the Second Team included: Fredonia juniors Lydia LaBarr and Elizabeth Morris, Southwestern junior Bella Sirianni, Falconer sophomore Mylie Zaranek, Portville junior Brielle Fidurko and sophomore Ali Haynes, Olean senior Amy Campbell and sophomore Anna Bates, and Allegany-Limestone sophomore Mia McCarthy.

Fredonia earned the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Honorable-mention selections included: Southwestern’s Payton Schwartz, Falconer’s Ashley Smith and Emily Zaranek, Fredonia’s Maddie Saunders, Allegany-Limestone’s Makenzie Goldsmith and Jamestown’s Raegan Powers.
