Fredonia’s Rush named Class C South Lineman of Year
After claiming the Section VI Class C South league title and a sectional championship, Salamanca received some postseason accolades from the league’s coaches.
Linebacker Zach Trietley was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year and Chad Bartoszek was named the Coach of the Year.
Trietley led a Warriors defense that allowed just 60 points en route to a 6-0 league record. The junior totaled 120 tackles, including six for a loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and two sacks.
Bartoszek led Salamanca to a 10-3 overall record that saw them beat Medina 36-23 in the Class C sectional championship game at Highmark Stadium and then top Le Roy 21-13 on a last-second touchdown in the Far West Regional at Williamsville South High School.
Portville/Cuba-Rushford senior running back Kaedon Holcomb was named the Class C South Offensive Player of the Year after rushing for 1,479 yards and 20 touchdowns for the Panthers.
Fredonia senior Owen Rush was named the league’s Lineman of the Year and Silver Creek/Forestville received the league’s Team Sportsmanship Award with senior John Steinwachs the Individual Sportsmanship Award winner.
Salamanca had three players named to the First-Team Offense. Junior offensive lineman Warrick Kyler was joined by senior wide receivers Arlen Newark (25 receptions, 435 yards, five TDs) and Lucus Brown (20 receptions, 507 yards, 10 TDs). Trietley was joined on the First-Team Defense by junior safety Cory Holleran (79 tackles, four INTs) and senior tackle Keegan Hardy (23 tackles).
Second-place Southwestern had one player on the First-Team Offense and four on the First-Team Defense. Junior wide receiver Brody Larson (27 receptions, 419 yards, three TDs), sophomore lineman Tavio Hoose (73 tackles, 29 TFLs, eight sacks, three forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries), senior end Jameson Walsh (35 tackles, 12 TFLs, 11 sacks), sophomore linebacker Brayden Potter (52 tackles, 12 TFLs, six forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries) and senior kicker Neves Hoose (24 PATs, three FGs) all received recognition.
Joining Holcomb on the First-Team Offense from third-place Portville/Cuba-Rushford were senior linemen Hayden Emley and Nik Manroe. Defensively, senior Ethan Coleman was named to the First Team for the Panthers.
Fourth-place Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove was represented on the First-Team Offense by senior quarterback Lucas Sopak (56 completions, 652 yards, 12 TDs) and junior wide receiver Mathis Baehr (16 receptions, 135 yards, five TDs). On the First-Team Defense was senior lineman Devyn Morrison (82 tackles, 15 TFLs, four sacks, three forced fumbles).
Joining Rush on the First-Team Offense for Fredonia was senior running back Sam Atzrott (1,429 yards, 15 TDs).
Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton sophomore linebacker Asher Olson (64 tackles, six TFLs, five INTs) and Silver Creek/Forestville junior defensive back Cam Ingram rounded out the First-Team Defense.
Junior quarterback Maddox Isaac led five Salamanca players on the Second Team. He was joined by seniors Jaxson Ross, Carmine Hoag, JT Auman and Dekkyn Krantz.
Southwestern senior wide receiver Declan Kennedy was joined on the Second Team by senior teammates Jacky Ni, Peter Conley and Bohdan Wendel.
Portville/Cuba-Rushford senior offensive lineman Lucious Young was joined in the Second Team by senior teammates Cody Barton and Dayton Shaw.
Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove senior Kolden McCall was joined on the Second Team by junior teammate Roger Markham and sophomore teammate Bradyn Fuller.
Fredonia senior wide receiver Jameson Quinn was named to the Second Team along with junior teammates Colin Crowell and Ian Storey.
Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton senior lineman Mason Maring and sophomore quarterback Brayden Gibbs rounded out the Second Team with Silver Creek/Forestville senior lineman Hunter Parks and senior defensive end David Barrett.
