Joslyn-led Eagles 4th at NCCC
SANBORN — Southwestern’s Carmine Calimeri and Tavio Hoose joined Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer’s Jordan Joslyn as individual champions at the Linda C. Knuutila Memorial Tournament held Friday and Saturday at Niagara County Community College.
Calimeri won the 131-pound title with a 4-1 decision over Tioga’s Jayden Duncanson. Joslyn claimed the 138-pound crown with a 5-3 victory over Newfane’s Aidan Gillings. Hoose won the 190-pound title with a 3-0 decision over St. Francis’ Zachary Caldwell in the final.
Randolph’s Caden Inkley took second at 160 pounds after falling to Williamsville North/East’s Cameron Catrabone in the final. Catrabone earned a pin in 1:19.
Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer’s Gavin Burchanowski was third at 108 pounds with a pin of Medina’s Reece Senske in 4:23. Southwestern’s Kenji Walters took third at 124 pounds after earning a 1-0 decision over Hamburg’s Sam Berti. Southwestern’s Neves Hoose was third at 170 pounds with a 7-6 decision over Niagara Wheatfield’s Joseph Cicco. Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer’s Mason Maring was third at 215 pounds with a 6-3 decision over Palmyra-Macedon’s Jared Haers.
Southwestern’s Aidan Torres took fourth at 101 pounds after losing a 3-1 decision to Niagara Falls’ Cameron Crumpler. Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s Dylan Newman was fourth at 116 pounds after losing a 7-2 decision to Tioga’s Logan Bellis. Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer’s Jayden Malecki fell to fourth place with a 3-0 loss to Palmyra-Macedon’s Luke VanGorden at 190 pounds. Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer’s Ison Shirley took fourth at 285 pounds via medical forfeit to Pioneer’s Chris Howatt.
St. Francis won the team title with 207 points, followed by Palmyra-Macedon (200.5), Williamsville North/East (175.5), Niagara Wheatfield (171), Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer (168), Tioga (159), Southwestern (142), Clarence (109) and Falconer/Cassadaga Valley (105.5). Randolph was 16th with 74 points, Jamestown was 18th with 71 and Gowanda was 39th with 20.
FREDONIA 4-0 AT MARYVALE
CHEEKTOWAGA — Fredonia went 4-0 at the Maryvale multi-team meet Saturday at Maryvale High School.
The Hillbillies beat Maryvale 42-33, Springville 42-36, Olean/Allegany-Limestone 39-29 and Lackawanna 43-30.
“It’s been several years since we’ve had that kind of success,” Fredonia head coach Joe Santilli said.
Wrestlers going 4-0 for Fredonia were: Rocco Muscarella at 101 pounds, Mayson Simmons at 108 pounds and Issiah Ruiz at 124 pounds.
Sam Wray went 3-1 at 215 pounds, while Gage Cope, Dalton Wolcott, Albert Baxter and Julian Ocasio, Cannon LeGrano all had two wins apiece.
“For a pretty young team, it was nice for them to come out on top in all four of the duals as they develop as a team,” Santilli said.
GOWANDA 4TH AT PORTVILLE
PORTVILLE — Frewsburg had three championship performances en route to a second-place team finish at the Portville Invitational.
Mason Raymond won the 101-pound title with a pin in 3:00 over Randolph’s Jamie Nottingham. Logan Fuller won at 116 pounds after pinning Gowanda’s Nakotah Jackson in 2:28. Connor Campion won at 124 pounds with an 11-1 major decision over Avoca/Prattsburgh-Hammondsport’s Hudson Cole as the Bears finished second with 168.5 points.
Gowanda’s Brody Mescall won the 190-pound title with a pin of Randolph’s Nathaniel Hahn in 1:51 as the Panthers finished fourth with 132 points.
Salamanca’s Keegan Hardy won the 285-pound title with a 2-0 decision over his teammate, Ian Breazeale. The Warriors finished sixth with 123 points.
Second-place finishers included Nottingham, Jackson, Gowanda’s Jayden Fish (138 pounds), Gowanda’s Nathan Warrior (145 pounds), Frewsburg’s Quinlan Smathers (170 pounds), Hahn and Breazeale.
Third-place winners included: Randolph’s Malachi Brown (124 pounds), Salamanca’s Thomas George (152 pounds), Gowanda’s Maddox Hudson (160 pounds), Frewsburg’s Griffen Lewis (190 pounds) and Frewsburg’s Brandon Francis (285 pounds).
In fourth place were: Salamanca’s Wyatt Bialaszewski (101 pounds), Salamanca’s Noah Longley (116 pounds), Salamanca’s Mitchel Schnaufer (124 pounds), Randolph’s Dallas Green (138 pounds), Salamanca’s Conner Seeley (145 pounds) and Frewsburg’s Jamison Caldwell (215 pounds)
