Pope earns first win as HC of Eagles
Chautauqua Lake downs Southwestern 51-40
MAYVILLE — When Devin Pope graduated from Chautauqua Lake, he left as its best basketball player in program history, amassing 2,023 career points.
Pope was back representing Chautauqua Lake on Thursday night, but this time making his debut as head coach.
Just like his playing career, Pope quickly found success behind the bench as the Eagles opened the season with a 51-40 nonleague victory over Southwestern.
Leading the way for the Eagles (1-0) were Nick Jacobson, who scored a game-high 24 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished four assists and made three steals; Nate Henry, who added 11 points and six rebounds; and Trent Houser, who scored 6 points and six rebounds.
Southwestern (0-1) was led by Sam Arrington with 16 points and Chase Harnett, who scored 9 points.

EDEN ROLLS NORTH COLLINS
EDEN — Eden stormed out to a 22-6 lead in the first quarter against North Collins and never looked back for a 74-40 nonleague victory.
North Collins (2-3) was led by Derek Ebersole with 27 points, four steals and three rebounds, and Zander Miller collected three rebounds.
Eden (2-0) was led by Taesyn Slating with 21 points and Chris Krencik added 17 more.
