JAMESTOWN — The Southern Tier Wrestling Officials Association Kickoff Classic featured plenty of competitors with impressive resumes. Fittingly, five area grapplers are picking up right where they finished off last season.

Reigning New York State Public High School Athletic Association champions Tavio Hoose of Southwestern and Jordan Joslyn of Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer captured titles on Saturday at the Physical Education Complex on the campus of Jamestown Community College.

Joining Hoose and Joslyn with first-place finishes among area wrestlers were Southwestern’s Carmine Calimeri, Maple Grove’s Matt Trim and Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer’s Ison Shirley. That trio were state qualifiers earlier this year, too.

Hoose capped the weekend with an 8-1 decision over Zachary Caldwell of St. Francis at 190 pounds for the title; Joslyn knocked off Jacob McFige of Honeyoe Falls-Lima with a 10-6 decision at 138 pounds; Calimeri pinned Israel Walker of Lewiston-Porter in 4:54 at 131 pounds; Trim edged Mason Maring of Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer 6-4 at 215 pounds; and Shirley held off Max Smith of Williamsville North/East 4-3 at 285 pounds.

Following are the area wrestlers who placed second: Adika Fiscus of Warren (116); Caden Inkley of Randolph (160); and Maring of Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer (215)
